4. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
It is a matter of great pleasure for me to finally present to you the Thesis Report. It is my
name that appears on the front of this thesis, but behind every passage/picture has been a
group of people who've contributed unstintingly of their time and talents, support and
friendship. Each of these people have, in one way or another, enriched the thesis report
you're about to read, and enriched my life. My deepest thanks to... Sapna mam- and
Shruti mam my class teacher and the thesis guide respectively- who brought new meaning
to the words competence, dedication, and co-operation.
I thank them all for sharing their experience in the field and acting as "technical advisors"
on various aspects of interior-designing of this project. They were highly generous and
selflessness is a gift to their profession.
It is my thesis guide's unflagging commitment and her confident optimism that served as
a constant reinforcement while I worked on it. I am also grateful to her for the assistance
she provided me, on the legal technicalities involved.
In the preparation of this report, I have used information from various sources- published
and unpublished, websites, handouts, publicity material, various schools and friends.
They made this project possible. They are too numerous to be mentioned in this brief
preface.
I take this opportunity to thank them all. I look forward to receiving invaluable comments
and suggestions from teachers, students and other readers for improvements in the
report. They will be sincerely acknowledged.
7. THESIS PROPOSAL
AS AN INTERIOR DESIGNING STUDENT OF INIFD, I HAVE TAKEN UP A
RENOVATION PROJECT OF THE PLAYWAY ‘SANJIVNI’ LACATED IN SECTOR
11A, CHANDIGARH. IT IS A DOUBLE-STUREYED BUILDING-
GROUND FLOOR IS THE PLAYWAY, FIRST FLOOR BEING BEING THE OWER’S
RESIDECE. IT IS A BUILDING OF 500sq.ft. OUT OF WHICH, 60% IS THE COVERED
AREA.
8. VALIDITY
THE PLAYWAY ‘SANJIVNI’ IS LOCATED IN SECTOR 11 OF CHANDIGARH. IT
COVERS AN AREA OF 500sq.ft. OUT OF THIS TOTAL AREA, 60% IS COVERED. OR
40% IS THE GREEN BELT. THE LOCATION IS VERY APT AS THIS SECTOR IS
CONSIDERED AS ONE OF THE BEST FOR RESIDENTIAL PURPOSE. HENCE, IS
ACCESSIBLE TO NO. OF FAMILIES.
9. HOW DID PLAYWAYS COME INTO EXISTENCE?
(THE HISTORY)
PLAY AS A WAY OF LIFE !
There are many ways of quibbling in a discussion of play as there are in a discussion of
the New Deal. We soon come to a definition of terms in either type of discussion and
the dictionary does not help very much. Each of us has a personal understanding of
the meaning of terms and only reluctance are we willing to agree that there may be
something to the other point of view.
One popular conception of play is that it is frivolous, and if that is your notion you
may find ample support in the dictionary. For instance, one definition reads: "to
treat, practise, or deal with by way of amusement, sportive imitation, or
representation, or without serious purpose; to trifle with; to pretend to engage in; to
make believe." If you are convinced that play is engaged in without serious purpose
then a play-way of life that might be characterized as drifting.
Most good citizens believe that life is a serious proposition and certainly there is little
to lead us to think that it is growing much easier for large proportions of population.
Early in our history it was decreed that those who do not work cannot eat. And such a
principle seems to have been reasonably adequate until recent times. But more of this
later.
The first argument against play in schools runs as follows: Since life is a serious
proposition, we should proceed to make of school a serious proposition so that pupils
may be prepared for tha hardships they are certain to encounter. If we are to prepare
for serious living in a school that takes itself seriously, then surely there is little place
for trifling play in its program.
11. Babies are stimulated by the world around... Everything that they
hear, taste, smell, and see is influential on their developing minds.
You can help your baby as they learn and grow by providing a
variety of experiences to stimulate their senses.
14. •Sing songs to baby.
•Talk to baby with inflection and feeling.
•Allow baby to make sounds of his own
with rattles, pots and pans, and clapping
his hands.
16. •Dance with baby, involving him in the motions.
•Provide plenty of room for baby to roll, crawl, cruise, or walk, depending on
his developmental stage.
•Play hand games with baby.
•Dance with baby, involving him in the motions.
18. •Give baby large pieces of fabric in a
variety of textures.
•Provide toys with different surfaces.
•Let baby play on different floor surfaces

Different types of toys and playing objects help
