5. Case Study Overview
Riverstone is a leading industry broker operating in Europe and the US. This
company has been successfully providing insurance and reinsurance for over 20
years. As you can easily imagine this company produces a vast amount of data.
The Riverstone team approached ExistBI regarding a MircoStrategy Consulting and
Report Migration Implementation project.
Their key objective was to get off their current reporting tool (Oracle Discoverer),
and they had a time constraint on this Commercially as their maintenance agreement
with Oracle on Discoverer was due to expire and there was an ever increasing
security risk with the lack of ongoing patching.
In our initial communications, we discovered that it was an initial phase of a
MicroStrategy project, to recreate approximately 600 existing reports and they had
already migrated 100+ reports.
Riverstone had a development team already working through the reports, with
Project Manager/Business Analyst feeding the process. They really needed
experienced MicroStrategy resources to help them plough through the remaining sets
of reports - especially the more complex ones which they could not convert. They
wanted UK based resources, to work primarily with their own development team.

6. Action
Riverstones goal was to migrate the remaining 450+ reports from Oracle Discover to
MicroStrategy. They preferred that the schema objects be created, however,
occasional free form SQL was accepted for complex SQL scripts. It was requested
that the consultant be pro-active, excellent communicator and have the skills to work
quickly to meet the deadline.
ExistBI quickly gathered the requirements on numerous calls with the IT Manager &
Director and assigned two experienced Certified MicroStrategy resources onsite in
their London and Brighton offices.
The project was overseen by one of our Certified Engineer Principal – MCEP for
strategy, project management and complex solutions.
Our team was initially assigned the most complex and high-priority reports to make
sure this migration project was a success. Once these were completed, we worked
through the priority list over our three month engagement.
Riverstone were extremely happy with our two resources and on-boarded a third
consultant to join the team in Brighton to finish the migration before the Oracle
licenses and support ended.

7. Results
Our MicroStrategy consultants and the internal Riverstone development team migrated all
the required reports from Oracle Discoverer to MicroStartegy on-time and on budget.
