ISTE has technology standards for administrtors Handout Nets for Administrators Handout Critical Conditions Discussion – 2 minutes to review critical conditions - Share their role in creating the critical conditions given their new portfolio
Mention the IEL and the System Level Leadership and the Catholic System Level Leadership framework
Avoid common Presentation mistakes
The key link to what has been discussed in Leadership and Relationships – not technology
Our process began 3 years ago with a systemic review of the department and the technological needs of our schools and an environmental scan of what was happening in the community - Outside resources, IBM provided an objective review of concerns and opportunities
Look back on where we were as a Board 3 years ago – similar to many Boards
We now annually review our planning document, Towards 2020 – Connecting with Our Students Management team input focus groups Department input - greatest input from a critical eye was the SO of planning and facilities
Example of our Board priorities and framework for 21 st Century Learning
We recognize that technology is not the answer, it is a support framework for our key priorities of student and staff success Lots of reading to become competent and develop some broader perspectives - sent our team to other Boards (networking) - linked with an SO from another Board – Greg Reeves – technology
Our assumption is that engagement leads to achievement, and at all times we need to keep students as the focus - Link to student success initiatives and lead from academic SOs
Infrastructure must be secure and reliable - Review role of SO in each of these areas
This slide gives you an idea of what is happening with Bring Your Own Device as more and more students bring devices to school. You’ll see that there are over 4600 iPods connecting everyday – I wonder how many of your students have an iPod that could be used as a learning device?
Equipment is one small piece and curriculum is an important component Review funding sources
Lots of role models Model use of Google Docs Demonstrate efficiencies of web 2.0 features such as room booking and Board Calendar Exec meetings using electronic Board meeting tools (Board Book)
Lots of Networking opportunities - Share current networks share networks within portfolios
Multiple in-service and delivery options My role in working directly with our staff
Don’t try and be someone else It is important to have others in your network or circle of influence that are not the same as you – this way you avoid groupthink and you can take into account different points of view and perspectives
Have each SO go through their role and explain how they lead change in their role related to each of these areas
we are all part of the changes and we will provide support to staff and to students as we continue to transition to a 21 st Century Learning and Teaching Environment
