4. Hemkund Sahib (4,632m/15,200ft)
Hemkund, a glacial lake surrounded by seven peaks, is
located in the Garhwal Himalayas at an elevation of over
15,200 ft (4,632 m) in Uttarakhand and accessible only
by foot from Govindghat on the Rishikesh – Badrinath
highway. It is most known for a gurudwara, Hemkund
Sahib, associated to the Sikh guru, Guru Govind Singh,
and is one of the most sacred of Sikh shrines.
Badrinath (3,415m/11,204ft)
Cradled in the twin mountain ranges of Nar and
Narayan along the left bank river Alaknanda, with the
splendid Neelkanth mountain as the backdrop, is the
holiest of the ‘Char Dham’ shrines. Legend dates it
prior to the Vedic age though it was re‐established by
Adi Shankaracharya, an important Hindu saint in 8th
century A.D. As per ancient scriptures "There are
many sacred spots of pilgrimage in the heavens, earth
and the nether world, but there has been none equal
to ‘Badri’, nor shall there be".

Day 1: New Delhi – Haridwar – Joshimath
(by Train/bus, Travel Time: 5hrs)
(Distance: 277km, Travel Time: 7 ‐8 hrs
Elevation: Joshimath – 1,875m/6,151ft)

Arrive at Haridwar station by 4 a.m/early morning and commence
our drive to Joshimath via Rishikesh – Devprayag – Srinagar –
Rudraprayag – Karanprayag.
Day 2: Joshimath – Govindghat – Ghangharia
(by road – Distance: 18km /trek – 14km, Travel Time: 7 ‐8 hrs
Elevation: Govindghat – 1,828m/5,997ft, Ghangharia – 3,048m/10,000ft)
Drive to Govindghat at the confluence of the Laxman Ganga & the
Alaknanda rivers. Trek from Govindghat to Ghangaria for 15 kms.
through dense vegetation to the base camp for the Valley of
Flowers. It is a gradual uphill trek.
Day 3: Ghangharia – Valley of Flowers
Distance: 3km, Travel Time: 2 hrs
Elevation: Valley of Flowers – 3,500‐3,962m/11,483‐12,998ft)
Early morning wake up call followed by breakfast. Post breakfast
we start for the trek to the Valley of Flowers(3650‐3965 mts) with
a packed lunch. The valley boasts of more than 300 species of rare
wild flowers including the blue Poppy, pink Geraniums, blue and
yellow Pansies to name a few. In the afternoon trek back to the
Ghangaria camp.

Day 4: Ghangharia – Hemkund Sahib
(Distance: 5km, Travel Time: 3 hrs
Elevation: Hemkund Sahib – 4,632m/15,200ft)

Trek to Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib – famous and revered Sikh
shrine. One of the holiest and the highest Gurudwara in the
Himalayas, Hemkund is a bluish green lake flanked by snow covered
peaks. The 5‐km trek to Hemkund is a steep climb along the Laxman
Ganga, which emanates from Hemkund. Packed lunch. Post lunch
we trek back to camp at Ghangharia.
Day 5: Ghangharia – Govindghat – Badrinath
(Distance: trek – 14km /by road – 26km, Travel Time: 5 – 6 hrs
Elevation: Govindghat – 1,828m/5,997ft, Badrinath – 3,415m/11,204ft)
Trek back to Govindghat. Post lunch we drive to Badrinath, A
picturesque drive through Vishnuprayag and Govindghat. Visit the
main temple in the evening. Overnight at hotel.
Day 6: Badrinath – Haridwar/Rishikesh
(Distance: 297/321km, Travel Time: 8 hrs)
Start the drive to Haridwar early morning after magnificent sunrise
views of the Neelkanth and surrounding peaks. Option to extend
the plan with an overnight stay in Rishikesh or Haridwar or depart
for New Delhi.
