DIGITAL AGRICULTURE ECONOMY
4. The National Broadband Network (NBN) is an upgrade to the existing
telecommunications network. It provides the infrastructure for affordable, high-speed
internet and phone access for all Australians, regardless of where you live or work.
However, the NBN is much more than faster internet.

5. WHAT DOES THE NBN MEAN?
5
DIGITAL AGRICULTURE ECONOMY
• Faster… much, much, faster
• The NBN will provide 93 per cent of households broadband speeds of up to
100 megabits per second (Mbps), or about 28 times faster than most people
experience today. The remaining premises (seven per cent) will be
connected via a combination of wireless and satellite technologies providing
peak speeds of at least 25 Mbps.
• More reliable
• Ubiquitous

24. They benefit farm owners and farmers by allowing them to focus on issues for their
business as opposed to day to day activities.
Farmers will have access to wealth of information and data from a network of
wireless sensors monitoring soil, crops, or pastures, livestock, machinery and
environmental conditions on the farm.
• Pathways to improved production (Precision Agriculture)
– 10-30% reduction in fertiliser input (rainfed and irrigated crops)
– 50-100% improvement in yield:water ratio (irrigated crops)
– 20% improvement in pasture use efficiency

25. Better Field Preparation & Planting
The technology helps a business owner spend less time on setting up
implements, tracking weather reports, determining the ideal time to
fertilize by and / or trying to remember what adjustments were made
last time.
Improved Crop Care
Technology provided by the solution helps business owners make real time
decisions based on locating specific, real-time weather data.
Maximum Harvesting Benefits
Users are able to control the location of the tractor and grain cart from the cab
for on-the-go unloading. This helps reduce wait time, operator stress, spillage,
fuel consumption and even soil compaction
Precision Farm Management
Farming today produces more data than ever before. With this technology
a business owner can define soil grids and track sample number from their phone or
tablet.

26. Web Based Software
• generate yield maps, soil sampling maps, import satellite imagery from
single package
• up to date weather reports,
• To ensure that a farm owner is making smarter business decisions using
precision farming CASE IH also offers an online calculator to help calculate
the ROI on using precision farming techniques and the cost savings by
using their technology.
GPS Equipment
CASE IH offers a range of GPS driving displays and receivers to talk to their
machinery. This allows them to give farmers year-to-year accuracy which
can be measured by repeated trials. For example, year-to-year accuracy
means an operator can drive the same rows next year to within one inch
of this year’s rows, 95% of the time (Source: CASE IH AFS, 2012).

provides one-inch repeatability from plant to
harvest with any field pattern, and extends your
operating hours with incredible precision.
Receivers
• Case IH’s offer a range of receivers, antennas
and smart antennas that offer an accuracy that
helps farmers be more productive by working
more efficiently.
• Reduce input costs like fossil fuels, as well as
increase profits.
