Mrs. Stout is collaborating with English teachers on a senior non-fiction inquiry unit using best practices from UBD and guided inquiry where students research essential questions and demonstrate new insights in a final project. She is also working with economics and algebra classes on infographics projects. All freshman students used library databases to research global issues for a thesis project. Mrs. Stout presented on student-centered inquiry units and attended a Follett Destiny training to weed the library collection and support the common core with high interest non-fiction. Library usage statistics for the month are provided.

--Collaborative Lessons
 In addition to the regularly scheduled collaborative class
sessions meeting in the Library Media Center, Mrs. Stout is co-
teaching a Senior Non-fiction Inquiry Unit with two Senior
English teachers, Mrs. Diercksen and Mrs. McGowan. The unit
uses best practices from UBD and Guided Inquiry to framework
student centered inquiry units incorporating Google documents
and Common Core standards. Students are self-selecting core
texts and essential questions, reflecting upon their
progress, and demonstrating their new insights in a culminating
final project. Mrs. Stout is working with the MTPL and ILL to
acquire high interest non-fiction for the project. In addition, the
North library has purchased several new high interest non-
fiction acquisitions.
 Two additional teachers have signed up for the unit in the fourth
marking period.

--Collaborative Lessons
 Several other classes, including Ms. Weimer’s Economics class
and Mrs. Salot’s Integrated Algebra class, are working on
creating Infographics in the Library Media Center. Students are
visually representing their data and statistical findings on topics
including consumerism and careers in mathematics for these
classes.
 All Freshman Academy students have met for several class
sessions in the Library Media Center to work on the Global
Issues thesis project. Students are using the Gale Global
Issues in Context database as their primary source for
researching information and are using Google Docs to share
their research proposals and source sheets with their History
and English teachers.

--Professional Development
 Mrs. Stout presented a Master Teacher Innovation Lab on the
framework for Student Centered Inquiry units this month.
 Mrs. Stout also attended a Follett Destiny Training Session in
Edison, NJ. She intends to use the materials presented to
weed the current collection at High School North. This will allow
her to identify areas of need in the collection. Her intention is to
purchase new materials to support the Common Core, with a
specific focus on high interest non-fiction selections.
 Mrs. Stout served on the Digital Literacy Month Committee and
attended the Digital Learning Month Celebration at High School
South on March 11th.
