SOLAR POWER FOR ENHANCING CAPACITY
The Present Scenario :
In almost all developing countries including India, the status of Electricity
supply is as follows:
 Availability - Extremely Poor
 Continuity - Highly intermittent in nature
 Quality - Very poor, full of fluctuations with
Harmonic distortions present
SOLAR POWER FOR ENHANCING CAPACITY
 Sources of Electricity - Grid / Diesel – Generator Set ( DG Set )
 Type of Loads - Mostly Motor Starting Loads, Lights
and Fans
 DG Set Selection - 2.5 Times of normal Load due to Motor
Load
 Grid Connection - At least 1.5 times resulting into high
fixed charges meaning higher cost per unit.
 Main operating costs - Electricity bills through Grid Fuel costs and
its transportation.

Above is true not only for RURAL / REMOTE installations but even in URBAN
India.
This results into loss of revenue, equipment reliability and users using Diesel
Generator Sets (DG Sets) at lower operating power which means costs of unit
going up to Rs 18-25 per unit.
Also larger cold storages need to be planned to offset such expenses .
In large number of Cold Storages used exclusively for Potato , they remain
Closed for 3-4 months in a year which could otherwise been used.
Limitation on use of smaller cold storages in remote areas due to Grid wire
Extension which is a costly affair.
So the solution lies in DISTRIBUTED GENERATION i.e.
HOME MADE ELECTRICITY

ANALYSIS OF GRID-EXPORT SOLAR INVERTER UNDER ROOF-TOP
Advantage :
• High conversion efficiency of PV Power into usable AC power
• Simple system with longer life i.e. no battery life issue.
Disadvantages:
• Works only under net-metering or with certain Load Vs
generation ratio only
• Under 3Ph unbalance, the energy generation suffers
• Normally inverters synchronize with grid only, hence do not
convert PV power into usable energy with small DG .
. Can not be used in Stand – alone mode .

• Major operating expenses (OPEX) are cost of electricity and fuel
• Electricity availability and its quality are a major concern
• Solar Solution with GRID-TIE inverter is not a good solution
• Solar Power + storage + Power Electronics offer the most cost effective solution with 4-6
years of payback period
• Major Subsidy(~30%) available through different agencies

SOLAR POWER FOR ENHANCING CAPACITY The Present Scenario : In almost all developing countries including India, the status of Electricity supply is as follows:  Availability - Extremely Poor  Continuity - Highly intermittent in nature  Quality - Very poor, full of fluctuations with Harmonic distortions present

SOLAR POWER FOR ENHANCING CAPACITY  Sources of Electricity - Grid / Diesel – Generator Set ( DG Set )  Type of Loads - Mostly Motor Starting Loads, Lights and Fans  DG Set Selection - 2.5 Times of normal Load due to Motor Load  Grid Connection - At least 1.5 times resulting into high fixed charges meaning higher cost per unit.  Main operating costs - Electricity bills through Grid Fuel costs and its transportation.

  • 13. Above is true not only for RURAL / REMOTE installations but even in URBAN India. This results into loss of revenue, equipment reliability and users using Diesel Generator Sets (DG Sets) at lower operating power which means costs of unit going up to Rs 18-25 per unit. Also larger cold storages need to be planned to offset such expenses . In large number of Cold Storages used exclusively for Potato , they remain Closed for 3-4 months in a year which could otherwise been used. Limitation on use of smaller cold storages in remote areas due to Grid wire Extension which is a costly affair. So the solution lies in DISTRIBUTED GENERATION i.e. HOME MADE ELECTRICITY (मेरी बिजली मेरे घर)

Disadvantages: • Works only under net-metering or with certain Load Vs generation ratio only • Under 3Ph unbalance, the energy generation suffers • Normally inverters synchronize with grid only, hence do not convert PV power into usable energy with small DG . .
