The moon’s surface and features
Gravity on the moon
Moon’s phases
3. The tides are made by the moons gravity pull
on the Earth. The moons gravity is very low so
it pulls the tides up that is what the moons
gravity pull is.
Tides are when the sea water level rises and
falls during the day.
High tides occur on the side of Earth facing the
moon.
4. The moon is about 384,403 km from Earth.
The moons distance to the sun is always changing
because of when it is at one side of the Earth it is
further away from the sun than if it were on the
other side.
The moon is Earth’s closest neighbour.
The moon stays the same distance away from
Earth because of the Earths gravity pull.
5. The moon takes about 27 days to orbit Earth.
The moon also spins on its on axis.
Together the moon and Earth orbit the sun.
6. Us astronauts were the first to land on the
moon.
On July 21st in 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz
Aldirin travelled in the Apollo 11 mission and
landed on the moon.
They wore spacesuits to protect them from the
changing tempuratue.
7. The average diameter is 3,475 km
The average radius is 1,737.10 km
The equatorial radius 1,738.14 km
The polar radius 1,735.97 km
The moon appears bigger than it is.
The moon is actually smaller than the stars and
much smaller than the Sun.
It is nearly four times smaller than Earth.
8. Scientists believe there is ice on the moon in
craters.
There is no atmosphere around the moon and no
wind.
The moon is made of rock from the Earth after a
mars sized body collided with Earth throwing
chunks of Earth into space. Gravity bond the
pieces together to create the moon.
Scientists have not found life on the moon.
The moon was probably made 4.6 billion years
ago.
9. Rocks on the moon are Basalt a volcanic
rock, Breccia which is scattered crushed rock
and Regolith which is dark greyish rock.
10. The moon has less gravity than Earth.
People weigh a lot less on the moon because it
is much smaller than Earth.
If you can jump 1.m on Earth you can Jump
4.m on the moon.
11. As the moon orbits Earth it appears to change
shape.
These different shapes are called phases of the
moon.
The light of the sun lights the moon.
The moon seems to change shape only because
your looking at the moon at a different angle
then another place.
