Nata entrance exam coaching
1. 1. ABOUT ARCHITECTURE COLLEGES IN INDIA & PROGRAMS OFFERED
There are more than 250 Architecture colleges in India offering more than 15,000 seats. They fall under 2 categories- State
Government Aided Colleges and Unaided (Private) Colleges. In Maharashtra, there are 8 State Government Aided
Colleges offering 427 seats and 54 Private Colleges offering 6,077 seats.
These colleges offer 4 or 5 years Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) programs.
2. ADMISSION PROCESS FOR B.ARCH.
The entry to above colleges is based on marks obtained in the qualifying exam i.e. XII grade (with Maths) and marks
obtained in the entrance exams i.e. MAH-AR-CAT 2012, NATA 2012 or AIEEE 2012.
Admission through MAH-AR-CAT 2012 entrance exam
The MAH-AR-CAT 2012 is conducted by the Departmental of Technical Education of Maharashtra State for admission to
first year of Five year degree course in Architecture in:
Seat distribution
The distribution of how a student can apply for the 427 seats offered by 8 State Government (Aided) or Consenting
Unaided Colleges is given below:
1. 344 seats* are offered through MAH-AR-CAT 2012 entrance exam
2. 39 seats are offered through the AIEEE 2012 Paper 2 entrance exam
3. 44 seats are offered under the individual college’s quota.
*Of the seats offered through MAH-AR-CAT 2012, 70% are offered to candidates from Home University area and 30% are
offered to Outside Home University area.
MAH-AR-CAT 2012 exam pattern
The MAH-AR-CAT-2012 examination will consist of one common question paper of maximum 200 marks in the subjects
of Aesthetic Sensitivity and Drawing to test the aptitude of the candidate for architecture degree course.
• Aesthetic Sensitivity Section will have 7 questions for 100 marks.
• Drawing Section will have 2 questions for 100 marks.

Selection criteria for admission
There are 3 rounds for admission to first year of B.Arch. through MAH-AR-CAT 2012. The selection of candidates for
each round is decided by the Merit Score which is calculated as follows:
1. MAH-AR-CAT 2012 score – 100 marks (score out of 200 marks is converted to 100 marks)
2. HSC (10+2) level, Diploma (10+3) or Equivalent – 100 marks
2. Admission through NATA 2012
NATA or National Aptitude Test in Architecture is required for admissions to 1st year B.Arch. at all institutes / schools /
colleges of Architecture in India (including Govt., Govt-aided, Private Unaided, University Depts., Deemed Universities,
etc.), offering courses, leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.
Seat distribution
There are 244 colleges across India which required NATA score for admission to the B.Arch. program. The number of
seats offered is in excess of 15,000. The number of seats offered by 53 colleges in Maharashtra is 6,077.
NATA 2012 exam pattern
The test is in two parts. A paper based drawing test for two hours and computer based online aesthetic sensitivity test for
one hour. The test measures aptitude of the candidate through two sections – a paper based section for drawing and
computer based section for aesthetic sensitivity.
Drawing Test (100 marks) - This is a two hour paper where candidate has to attempt two questions. One of the questions
has two sub questions.
Aesthetic Sensitivity Test (100 marks) - This is computer based test of one hour where candidate has to answer 40 multiple
choice questions. The aesthetic sensitivity test measures perception, imagination and observation, creativity and
communication along with architectural awareness. This section is computer adaptive, meaning that the computer selects
questions based on the candidate’s performance on preceding questions.
Key dates
The dates for NATA 2012 are not yet announced. NATA can be taken on any date up to 25 September. The dates on
which NATA is available depends on the Test Centre. Candidates may request Test Centre for the preferred dates. If the
candidate is available for NATA only on a particular date (or range of dates) that a particular Test Centre is not able to
give, the candidate may register at any other Test Centre throughout India that is able to administer NATA on that date /
time.
Selection criteria for admission to colleges
As per COA rules, a candidate applying to any school / college of architecture in India should have achieved 40% score in
the total NATA score, i.e. at least 80/200, for consideration of admission into first year B.Arch.
Admission through AIEEE 2012
Date of exam: 29 April 2012
Paper Pattern: 1 paper with 2 parts.
Part 1 is more aptitude questions like Aesthetic Sensitivity of NATA.
Part 2 is all about drawing. SILICA prepares students only for Part 2 of the exam.
