As BPM and SOA have matured, the speed and efficiency with which we can process and
service solutions has increased. Yet, while creating and integrating solutions inside the
enterprise has become significantly easier, managing and governing the way services and
processes are exposed for external consumption can still be quite difficult. This is where API
management comes in. A business API is a managed interface that an enterprise chooses to
expose as part of its external persona. This session explores the interactions and synergies
between SOA and API management, and how enterprises are applying API management
philosophies both externally and internally for improved business integration and collaboration.

Though WebSphere MQ version 7.5 has addressed the need for securing access from external
applications, there is still a need for a more holistic strategy when it comes to management of
WebSphere endpoints such as MQ, WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Message

service administration and monitoring of those endpoints. What are the means of sharing
visibility and control of these endpoints, allowing self service, and still maintaining a secure
access and control model? In this session, two methods will be discussed: one using internal
features of the endpoint technology, such as WebSphere MQ, and the other using a single-portal

mobile future (using protocols like REST and JSON). In this session, Bill Hines and Chris
Khoury will take you through the process of easily enabling and securing a legacy SOAP-based
web service for the new REST/JSON-based mobile world. Putting measures like this in place
will enable you to quickly develop wins for your business in the mobile space. They will also
allow you to continue to perform more complete movement of your architecture into the mobile
future using tools such as Worklight, along with DataPower and others.
1652 SLA Policy Management and Enforcement with WSRR and DataPower
Date: Wed, May 1, 2013
Location: Marcello 4403 - Venetian
Start Time: 2:15 PM
End Time: 3:15 PM
Agenda status: Confirmed
Speakers: Nick Butler, IBM, Ian Heritage, IBM
Session Code: TSS
Program: Technology
Track: Messaging, SOA Integration & Governance
Subtrack: SOA Principles and Practices
Level: Beginner
WebSphere Registry and Repository (WSRR) and DataPower products have a very close
integration that allows access to web services to be managed as to who can call a service and
how much of the service they can use. The policies that control this are defined in WSRR, and
then enforced automatically by a DataPower gateway. This allows increased agility and
responsiveness to change, while reducing the costs through simple authoring of policies and
automated enforcement. The capabilities of WSRR allows formal governance to be applied to
those policies. In this session we will describe in detail what you can achieve and how, including
a demo.

B2B appliances allow you to optimize the data channel by separating gateway services and edge
security from EDI document processing. This allows customers to move B2B governance and
security closer to the edge of the network, providing low-latency, high-performance data
connections. B2B integration software allows you to perform all levels of EDI document
processing outside of the gateway, providing customers the robustness of a full-featured EDI
processing engine without sacrificing the performance of the gateway connection. Come to this
session to see how customers are using the combined power of DataPower B2B appliances and
Sterling B2B Integrator to support a broad range of B2B patterns.

Yet, while creating and integrating solutions inside the enterprise has become significantly easier, managing and governing the way services and processes are exposed for external consumption can still be quite difficult. This is where API management comes in. A business API is a managed interface that an enterprise chooses to expose as part of its external persona. This session explores the interactions and synergies between SOA and API management, and how enterprises are applying API management philosophies both externally and internally for improved business integration and collaboration.
