The arrangement or spread of people living in a
given area; also, how the population of an area
is arranged according to variables such as age,
race, or sex.
4. Clustered Settlement
A clustered settlement is a settlement pattern
identified by its dense development around a
central church or public place. One example is
Heca, Saudi Arabia which is one of the only
water resources and, as a result, has a
clustered settlement pattern.

6. Scattered Settlement
Scattered settlements are made up of individual
buildings scattered over a wide area. One
example is rural southwest Ontario which has
excellent soil supply and has scattered
settlement patterns.

8. Linear Settlement
Linear settlements are located in a line along
main transport routes such as roads, railways,
rivers and canals. One example is when
everyone wanted to live near the St. Lawrence
river in Montreal for the water and to fish.

10. Population Density
Population density is the number of people
living per square kilometer. Some places with
high population density are Bangladesh and
Hong Kong. Northern Ontario is a place with low
population density.
