“Media schools and colleges are to develop exceptional personality and thoughts

in the upcoming generation of journalist” - Shri S. Gurumurty

“Media itself needs to provide the options to viewers for good content.”

- Shri Umesh Upadhyay

Ahmedabad: National Institute of mass communication and journalism(NIMCJ) organized its third
consecutive Media Convergence Meet at AMA on the 12th of May. In this meet Shri S. Gurumurty,
renowned columnist and thinker, was present in the inaugural session as a Chief Guest. Smt Gorsiben
Parekh, Director of Ahmedabad International School, was there as Guest of honor.

In this meet many intellectuals like Shri S. Gurumurthy, Shri Umesh Upadyaya, Vice Chancellor
Disha University, Raipur, Shri Eknath Satputkar, Director of Aurusha Communication shared
there views, reviews and opinions on various issues related to the media.

NIMCJ director Dr Shirish Kashikar welcomed the dignitaries and guests for the meet. He
stated that the event is purely the intiative of the institute, Dr Kashikar said that media
professionals, media students and others interested in the field were expected to take part in
the deliberations, which is an annual event since 2010.

Shri Umesh Upadhaya spoke on the topic; Prime time news, views and reviews or a TRP
Tikdam. Today people want to watch Rakhi Sawant, for this the media itself is responsible. To
bring this audiences back to the good news section, the media itself need to work hard
towards it.

In the next session Shri S. Gurumurthy talked on: How should a media person be…. “One
should conduct a media audit to get good news, serious journalism is mass journalism. Many
of today’s journalists are snippet journalists. As a journalist we are honest to the society but
dishonest towards the system.”

During this program various projects created by the students of NIMCJ were presented which
included documentaries, fictional films, street play, poems etc.

After this session Shri Eknath Satpurkar talked on: The importance of regional channels. “In
the whole media circuit the regional channels share 60% of space. The journalist not only
need to show the mirror to the society but also be a part in the development of the society.”

In the concluding session Shri Avnish Jain, Gujarat state head Divya Bhaskar talked about his
experience and five major challenges that the print media is facing in the current era.
