Subtopic: “OUR COLOURFUL WORLD. PETS AND OTHER ANIMALS ”
LEVEL – ELEMENTARY
Objectives: to train students to use topical vocabulary and grammar structures;
to develop students’ speaking, reading, listening and writing habits;
to develop students’ skills and habits of unprepared speech;
to develop students’ skills in giving opinions;
to encourage pupils to speak English;
to help students to understand the beauty of nature;
to teach students to take care of birds and animals.
Materials and aids: a tape-recorder, a tape with the poem “I Love My Dog”, pictures
of birds and animals, colour cards with the names of the animals, a poster with the
table, text for reading “They Were as White as Snow”, cards with the tasks to the
text.
PROCEDURE
1. Greeting
T: Good morning, boys and girls. I’m glad to see you. I think you are well today. Are you OK?
P: I’m well.
P1: I’m fine.
P2: I’m very well.
P3: I’m OK.
P4: I’m all right.
P5: I’m great
P6: I’m nice.
T: It’s very pleasant that everything is OK. So, let’s start our today’s work.
Today we’ll speak about the colours around us, about our pets and other animals.
By the way, who is on duty today?

P: Nobody is absent today.
T: What was your home task for today?
P: Our home task was to learn the poem “What Colour are They?” and to learn the words.
T: Are there any problems with your home task?
Ps: No, there are no problems.
T: What season is it now?
P: It is winter now.
T: What month is it now?
P: It is January.
T: What is the weather like today?
P: The weather is fine today.
T: What colour is the sky?
P: The sky is blue.
P1: You are wrong! The sky is white. The sky is covered with white clouds!
T: You are right! The sky is white. What colour are the trees?
P: The trees are white and brown.
T: The trees are white and brown and… Look through the window. What colour are the fir-trees
near our school?

They were as white as snow
(an English Tale)
Many, many years ago the raven and the owl were both as white as snow. One day the raven
said, "I am tired of being white and what’s about you?"
"I am tired of being white too".
"I have plan", said the raven.
"Why don't we paint each other in a different colour?"
"All right", answered the owl. "We can try to do it".

7. The raven was pleased.
"Good! Let's begin. You paint me first and then I'll paint you", said the raven.
"Oh, no. It's your idea. You must begin."
"Very well", the raven agreed.
He took some paint and started.
He painted many beautiful grey and black spots on each feather, large and small.
"Oh, how beautiful! I have made you, owl!" cried he after finishing his work.
The owl was pleased the raven's work "And now let me paint you too".
But when the owl finished her work she saw that the raven was more beautiful than she was.
The owl got angry and poured all paint over the raven and flew away.
"Oh, you are a bad owl", cried the raven. "I made you nice, you made me blacker then night."
And from that day all ravens are black and they don't like owls.
