Egypt Land of the Pharaohs
The Nile River    Running 4184 miles, the Nile River is claimed to be the longest river in the world.  Everyday you can see small boats gliding up and down segments of the river.    In ancient times early civilizations used this river to water their crops and it is still used to do such in present times.    The begging of the Nile river starts at 31 degrees north and  30 degrees east.  The end of the river has the latitude and longitude of 12 degrees north and 32 degrees east.
The Great Pyramids      Egypt’s greatest attraction, The Great Pyramids, is located at 28 degrees north and 29 degrees east.     The Great Pyramids attract tourists and visitors from all over the world.   They were estimated to be built circa 2560 BC, making it one of the oldest of the seven wonders of the world.
The Sphinx of Giza  Built along side the Great Pyramids is the Sphinx because it is so close it shares the same latitude and longitude,28 north and 29 east; a mystery some historians are still trying to uncover.  Because it is located in front of the three pyramids the Sphinx acts like a guard to this historical site.
                     The Suez Canal  A manmade canal positioned between Africa and the middle east at 30 degrees north and 32 degrees east. It  is used for trade and transportation.  It was built as a shortcut to travel to Asia.  Compared to other canals the Suez canal is much more simpler not using locks to transport ships.
Citadel Saladin        Built by King Saladin and his brother this fortress was situated on a hill to look over the ancient city of Cairo.  One thing this fortress is known for is its gates; every 120 meters there is a gate into the Citadel.   Today the Citadel is used as a museum open to visitors and residents. The citadel is located at 30 degrees north and 32 degrees east.
Languages         Because of its location many Egyptians speak Egyptian Arabic everyday, but many also speak the French and German languages that were introduced in the 1800s.
Egyptian Customs In Egypt it is common for someone to tip you if they believe you worked with an added or extra effort. When eating at an Egyptian home there are rules to follow: 1) Eat with your right hand only.2) Never use salt as this would insult the cook. 3)Complement the meal as well as the home you are eating it at.

Egyptian Pound              The Egyptian pound has been around since 1834. Even though coins are not popular, and banknotes are often used, coins are still a legal form of currency.  When Egypt began to use the pound the exchange rate for the American dollar was 1 pound to almost 3 dollars, but after the devaluation of the American dollar the pound is currently worth more.
Egypt's Republic            Egypt's government, much like the United States, is a democratic republic.  This means that citizens vote on important decisions.   Egypt’s government compared to other African and Middle East governments is very stable .
Economy Still recovering from the Yom Kippur War, Egypt’s economy continues to grow.  Egypt has a mixed economy which means that the government and private companies control the economy; thus a mix of socialism and capitalism
