PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The 2015 National Behavioral Health Network’s Tobacco & Cancer Control Community of Practice
(CoP) is an 8-month initiative comprised of ten direct service provider organizations (e.g., community
mental health centers, addiction treatment organizations, federally qualified health centers) seeking to
enhance their tobacco and cancer control practices for individuals with mental illnesses and addictions.
Participants will gain knowledge and skills to:
 Build Tobacco-Free Campuses
o Implement campus-wide tobacco-free policies (addressing both client and staff cessation)
 Implement Cancer Screenings
o Implement cancer screening (both in integrated care settings and via referrals to local
FQHCs)
 Utilize Tobacco Cessation Tools
o Implement practice guidelines for addressing smoking cessation for youth and adults
(including counseling and use of Nicotine Replacement Therapies)
 Understand Cancer Survivorship
o Incorporate cancer survivorship into care planning
As a participant, you will have access to four (4) 2-hour learning sessions and four (4) 1.5 hour webinars (also
open to the general public) with national experts that cover the topic areas identified above. National experts will
also hold individual office hours for CoP participants who wish to receive individualized coaching. Throughout the
course of the CoP, participants will have the opportunity to report their accomplishments, challenges faced, and
changes implemented through surveys and other tools.
