- 3. 3 ISO 14001 in brief ï ISO 14001 is among ISO's most well known standards ever. ï Itis implemented by more than a million organizations in some 175 countries. ï ISO14001 helps organizations to implement environmental management. AARDO
- 4. 4 Environnemental management ï ISO 14001 is for EMS. This means what the organization does to: 1. minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities, 2. to conform to applicable regulatory requirements, and to 3. achieve continual improvement of its environmental performance. - 5. 5 Why have ISO 14001? ï satisfying the customer's quality requirements, ï complying to regulations, or ï meeting environmental objectives AARDO
- 6. 6 Processes, not products ï ISO 14001 concersn the way an organization goes about its work. ï It is not product standards. ï It is not service standards. ï It is process standards. ï It can be used by product manufacturers and service providers. AARDO
- 7. 7 Certification & Accreditation ï Itmeans that an independent, external body has audited an organization's management system and verified that it conforms to the requirements specified in the standard (ISO 14001). ï Accreditation is like certification of the certification body. AARDO

- 9. 9 Prepare your company (1/9) ï Buy ISO 14000 family standards ï Learn about the standard ï What is ISO 14001? ï What is EMS? ï Learn about the requirements? ï Buy training materials ( ppt, implementation of ISO standardsâŠ) AARDO
- 10. 10 Perform the Gap Analysis (2/9) ï Perform preliminary environmental review and gap analysis in the company ï Prepare list of all operations ï Use specific checklist ï Review previous environmental issues ï Consider current regulations ï Determine gaps that needs to be changed AARDO
- 11. 11 Prepare the Project Plan (3/9) ï Create the plan to determine tasks, timelines and needed resources ï Consider a step-by-step method ï Use MS Project or others for planning ï Or prepare a checklist to not miss anything ï Prepare instructions of how to prepare the ISO 14001 docs ï Orient each person who is involved in the preparation of the documents AARDO
- 12. 12 Train your staff (4/9) ï Train the staff to understand ISO ï Train the staff on the process of certification ï Train the staff with ISO 14000 family ï Train the staff with needs and requirements of ISO 14001 ï Train the staff with EMS ï Train them with concept of PDCA and process approach AARDO
- 13. 13 Develop documentation system (5/9) ï Understand the scope of your company operations ï Prepare the list of all documents needed ï Use advocacy from EMS certification organization ï Use standard documents formats AARDO
- 14. 14 Improve the gaps of EMS (6/9) ï Implement the docs and process prepared ï Redesign and develop the current ones ï Use PDCA ï Fill the gaps ï Collect and record all the files AARDO
- 15. 15 Conduct internal audit (7/9) ï See the system if it is working ï Give corrective actions ï Propose preventive actions ï Use standard checklist for the internal audit AARDO
- 16. 16 Register with ISO 14001 (8/9) ï when all requirements were met ï Declare to the certification organization and ask for audit ï Provide all docs, records and procedures ï If this 3rd party audit verified Bravo ! ï You are ISO 14001 certified ï Your certificate is valid for 3 years AARDO
- 17. 17 Surveillance audit (9/9) ï After certification the company will be audited each ï 6 months or ï 1 year ï The purpose of this audit is to see if requirement are followed up and maintained. ï Audit findings: 1. A major non conformity 2. A minor non conformity 3. An observation or opportunity to improve AARDO
