- 7. Some Thoughts By Jojo
From the vast experience that Celestos has collected over the past few years of working with Alumni networks
and associations around India, a few points have become clear:
Alumni Groups are going to explode around India as Institutions come of age and as Indians become affluent
However, each Institution has to work on developing bonds with their current Students for the Nostalgia and
the Affection to develop
Among all stakeholders of any Educational institution, Alumni are the single largest potential donor of
finance, goodwill and effort
Technology will be vital to harness the power of these Groups: quickly, effectively and at reasonable cost
Unfortunately, very little attention is currently paid to Alumni in most of our institutions. The very first step is to
set up an Office for Alumni Affairs in all our Schools. A full time Office can focus on Informing, Involving and
Respecting Alumni to show that their goodwill is welcome and necessary for the advancement of the School.
Celestos is well positioned as a market leader in Alumni networks and a pioneer in promoting the Alumni
Leadership Master Class that seeks to educate the Educators on the potential of their Alumni to change the face of
their Schools.
Awareness + Nostalgia + Networks + Affluence can help make Indian Alumni Groups as effective as they
are in the West.

Time: 10.00 am – 10.25 am
An institute aims to create leaders who influence the society in various ways. Every student who
graduates after having spent most memorable years of their lives becomes a lifelong asset for an
institute. They become the guardians of the reputation of that institute and must be considered as
an integral part of the academic lifecycle. This session focuses on the importance of alumni
relations and what should be considered by an institute to reach out to their alumni network.

- 9. Topic: Connect with Your Alumni Today – Technology Tomorrow
Faculty: Kaushik Bellani
Time: 10.30am – 10.55 am
In an environment with rapid technological changes in the way people communicate and access information, alumni
interaction by an institute must be well channelized. An institute’s image is not merely controlled by itself
today, various Web 2.0 tools are increasingly becoming mass influencers, hence playing a crucial role in the decision
making process. Alumni today are to be involved in a two-way communication process, encouraging them to be
participants and not just listeners. Challenges faced by Alumni offices today must be overcome by breaking the
traditional barriers and realizing the potential of Web 2.0.
Topic: The Present and the Immediate Past
Faculty: Joseph John
Time: 11.00 am – 11.25 am
One of the biggest challenges an Alumni Relations Office faces is to get the database in order. Part of the solution
lies with students currently pursuing their academic courses. To ensure that the database is updated and
maintained, it is important to reach out to current students in various ways. Use them as Volunteers. Engage them to
reach out to Young Alumni. Create Student Affiliation and Ownership to ensure a lifelong bond with your institution.
Reward them. Find out how you can engage the present and the immediate past in this session.

- 10. Topic: ‘Google Not’ your Alumni
Faculty: Kaushik Bellani
Time: 11.30 pm – 11.55 pm
‘Google’ is the simplest way to search information. However, try not to Google your Alumni, it might only cost the
alumni office a few thousands of Rupees, a few days and will result in mostly fragmented information. The solution
is to create a platform that equips your alumni relations office to be able to organize and plan effective programs to
engage your alumni on a continuous basis. Alumni engagement involves more than just database management and
fund raising. It is a lifelong process for an institute to grow its brand over many years by engaging with its alumni.

- 11. Topic: Alma Matters – Communicate Right & Bridging the gaps – Reunions and more
Faculty: Joseph John
Time: 2.00 pm – 2.25 pm
Right messaging to the right audience and especially when it comes to communicating with your Alumni is extremely
essential. Identifying Alumnus groups with respect to age, year of graduation, etc is imperative when directing a
message to involve them while planning alumni meets and other activities. Every alumni member is an integral part of
an institute’s DNA and are contributory members in their individual capacities.
Reunions, guest lectures, mentorship, career guidance are 4 key pillars of alumni relations and has a strong influence
on the overall reputation of an institute. Alumni officers must bridge the gaps between the alumni, current students and
staff in order to strengthen ties between each other. Global alumni presence must be leveraged to the advantage of an
institution’s international reputation and brand building. These engagement programs must constitute a major part of
alumni engagement activities.
Topic: Your Alumni is Your ‘Global Brand’
Faculty: Kaushik Bellani
Time: 02.30 pm – 2.55 pm
‘Apple’ is one of the biggest and most reputed brands in the world. What did they do right? Why do they have a
massive fan following? Who are their brand ambassadors? An institute also is a brand in itself which must be
maintained to build trust and reputation over the years. The only true brand building for an institute is done through its
students who become its alumni and finally ambassadors who increase the goodwill in the global academic and
business environment. Valuing your alumni and engaging with them is an effort which will not go in vain, but fetch
endless benefits. (Social Media v/s Customized Approach Program)
