Vehicle ownership in India has increased dramatically over the past 60 years, growing 420 times from 1950 to 2011. However, roads have only increased 2.8 times over the same period. As a result, India's roads are now flooded with over 14.6 crore vehicles, and the number is expected to double in the next 4-5 years. This explosive growth in vehicles is endangering the safety and environment of all road users if left unchecked.
