1. This video by James Morrison and Nelly Furtado.
I chose to analyse this video it is a duet by a
male and female artist. I believe this is quite
relevant to my groups potential music video as
it consists of a male and female artist.
From looking at certain shots in this video I have
concluded that there are many mid shots of the
artist performing as James is singing and
performing the guitar. This music video is heavily
based on performance which I think is important
to include on a music video.
This shot at the beginning starts of with a slow
pace pan. I think this is a very good way to start
of a music video as it gives a sense of what type
of genre and the type of song it is
I have also noticed that there are
a lot of close ups of the two
artists This is important as it
emphasises their role. Also the
editing used are slow paced
simple cuts, as well as some
fades.
Also in this music video it shows that
there is limited locations, however to
keep the audience interested there is
many different shots of James which is
constantly getting changed over from
close ups, mid shots and long shots.
This means there is a lot of camera
work involved in this music video.
2. Also like this shot
as it shows the
female silhoutte.
These are a few of the many shots included in
the video which shoes James performance
aspect to the video. The guitar is used as it is
an important prop to the actual instrumental
of the song.
3. Shot reverse shot is
used when both the
female part changed to
males part in the song.
The transparent Nelly i
a smart way of using
technology in music
video as it shows she is
there in the video,
however James cannot
see her. Also there is a
mid shot of both their
hands touching
between a glass panel.
This is when they both
are singing the lines
together. Which shows
that when two artists
sing the same lyrics, it
gives me an idea to film
both artists together.
4. Distruction of props may
also compliment the lyrics
as the song title is called
‘broken strings’ which may
suggest it a emotional/break
up song.
