The Foundation was established to address the challenge faced by Scottish growth companies to compete in the global marketplace; and the need to grow the confident entrepreneurial capabilities of the Scottish graduate community. The perceived constraint is not one of technology or innovation – Scotland has a proud history in both of these – but one of people. People who have the entrepreneurial global mindset Growing more competitive businesses of scale is central to the medium and long term growth strategies for Scotland. The success of these strategies depends significantly on t he availability of human capital ie entrepreneurial talent with the vision and drive to create or transform businesses into global businesses of scale. The Saltire Foundation was created by Scottish Enterprise to address this specific challenge. With the support of the GlobalScot network, The SaltireFoundation accelerates the development of Scotland’s potential business leaders by offering unrivalled opportunities to work with, learn from and network with some of the world’s leading business players..
The Foundation runs two outstanding programmes centred on excellence: a prestigious one year Fellowship and an International Undergraduate programme. The Undergraduate Programme provides students with the opportunity to participate in an eight-week internship at the international branches of a wide range of influential companies. The Fellowship Programme is a world-class, year long programme that equips the Fellow with the skills and attitude required to take a leadership role within Scottish business. It blends teaching at the #1 ranked business school in the world for entrepreneurship with hands on international experience at a major, global company then a Scottish high growth SME. We are looking for people who can act as ambassadors for SCOTLAND. Successful candidates won’t only be representing themselves, but will be representing their University, the SaltireFoundation and Scotland. Professional behaviour, an absolute “can-do” attitude and using your initiative will be expected of you at all times – in work and outside of work. Candidates will be selected on their individual merits, with academic achievement being only one of the factors we consider.
With only limited places available for talented students in Scotland, the programme standards are high. Competition for places is extremely high and there are strict eligibility criteria in place. It is really critical that you make sure you meet all the outlines requirements before submitting an application. Successful candidates will gain an invaluable insight into the workings of high-level international business operations on a practical level. You will return energised with a fresh passion and enthusiasm, ably equipped to seize the rich opportunities that Scotland has to offer.
