- We are a small special library, essentially supporting SAIAB and Rhodes University faculty and students. “Contributing to research and teaching in aquatic biodiversity through heritage collections and a global web of data”.
- The library can be ‘without walls” or virtual if we make use of technology like digitisation, and social media applications – and integrate all platforms.
- Still a mantra for present-day librarians.
- 2. Respect all forms by which knowledge is communicated. 3. Use technology intelligently to enhance services.
- An overview of what we have available for use in our library. Most of this cannot be issued out to users.

Social media we currently use (June 2016) to enhance these web pages, and for teaching, research and outreach. - Our Libguide, hosted by Rhodes University Library, with whom we share resources and services. These webpages are a one-stop shop of our resources and services, and we use these in library information teaching sessions.
- You Tube is a great teaching tool for Library Instruction and Information Literacy as well as covering every topic imaginable.
- SlideShare is also a great teaching tool for Library Instruction and Information Literacy and covers every topic imaginable.
- Library Blog posts are promoted on Twitter.
- Twitter linked to the Libguide, which links further to digitised collections at our partner Biodiversity Heritage Library www.biodiveristylibrary.org so enhancing our networking.
- Integrated online presence at the Margaret Smith Library, for different audiences. Identified by careful branding.
