Joseph.
• They were enslaved because they were blessed by
God and great in numbers. Pharaoh feared that if a
war happened, Egypt would not survive.
• Pharaoh had a majority of the Hebrew men killed and
allowed Egyptians to marry Hebrew women to gain
rights to the land.
4. Who is Yahweh?
• God revealed His name to be Yahweh, which means
“I Am.” God necessarily exists.
• This points to the eternal nature of God who was, is
and always will be.
• This is the mystery expressed in the Glory Be.

6. The Promised Land
• Why did the Israelites wander the desert for 40 years?
• Why was Moses not allowed into the Promised Land?
• Land and the great justice of God.
• We will have to render an account for all our thoughts,
words, deeds and omissions (all of our sins) to God.
• Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land.
• He was a man of great Faith in God.
• Defended the Israelites against enemies.
• Before his death, he gathered the Israelites and
renewed the covenant with the Lord.
7. Holy Oils
• Where do we get the use of Holy Oils?
• During the time of the Prophet Samuel, Israel wanted
a king, like other nations, to lead them. God
instructed Samuel to anoint these kings with oil as a
sign that they were chosen by God.
• Today, we use:
• The Oil of the Catechumens
• Oil of the Sick
• Oil of Chrism
8. Psalms
• Psalms come from the word meaning “song”.
• Psalms were beautiful songs accompanied on the
harp.
• Today we use piano or organs traditionally.
• King David composed many psalms to praise God, to
thank him, to ask him for help and to soothe wearied
souls.
• We still say/sing the Psalms at the Mass and in the
Liturgy of the Hours.
