7. ABOUT
OBI ASIKA
Chairman of the Advisory Board, Social Media Week Lagos
“ ”
In just under a year, we have built the
platform for a community that has the
potential to reach millions of Africans
across the continent and diaspora.
Social Media Week Lagos 2013 was one of the most amazing
experiences of my life thus far. It was truly inspiring to see the breadth of
knowledge, skills, information, data and networking on display during the
week. For too long Nigerians have worked in individual silo's, protective
of their ideas and reluctant to share, but the theme of SMW Lagos was
"Open and Connected" and I believe we achieved that!
9. TESTIMONIAL
Hosting Social Media Week on the African continent has been a goal
of ours for sometime and as the largest country with 170 million
citizens, Lagos, Nigeria felt like the most exciting place to host. The
quality and diversity of the content was as high as we've seen
anywhere and the level of engagement from the Lagos community
was inspiring to see. Hearing these new perspectives on how social
media and technology is shaping the lives of African people, how
it's changing government and giving the youth in Africa a new voice
is a powerful message to the rest of the world. We believe that
Social Media Week Lagos will become an important platform for
continuing to shape this conversation for many years to come.
