Bryan Breckenridge: Linkedin for Good

Hinweis der Redaktion

  1. Hi! It’s an honor to be here representing LinkedIn Nonprofit Solutions today in sunny socal!Who’s a member?Who’s leverage LinkedIn for personal career reasons?Who’s used LinkedIn to benefit their organization?
  2. I’m a happy social intrapreneur. I believe that the belief and energy that combine in this room make us unstoppable. I think optimal living is achievable. I believe that the most important and sexy part of all of us is our soul (especially if it’s compassionate and authentic). If our soul (the roots) and we are supported by our tribe, powered by good health and always in action we’ll actualize instead of just survive.Bring this to our organizations and we all have callings instead of jobs to make our living.
  3. I helped salesforce.com create the salesforce.com Foundation and carry their technology to the nonprofit world. Doing it again. This time I not only have the cool technology plumbing, but it’s not empty when you start using it. It has 120 million people connected to it. Much better!
  4. Look at the url bar next time you’re logged in. What member number were you? I’m a tandem skydiver. I didn’t jump out with no shoot. I’m early, but not bleeding edge early guy.
  5. This guy is. He jumped from a plane without a chute. He’s like the social media dude of a few years ago…before darian and ritu had this mini-conference.
  6. My goal today is to bring all of you who have jumped out of the plane and are using social media (specifically Linkedin) into a tight (and quite cute) formation. 
  7. For us, fundamentally changing the way the world works begins with our mission statement: To connect the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful. Fortunately, the organizations and causes that our 120 million members represent are also becoming more productive and successful using LinkedIn.
  8. We’re making great strides toward our mission. Let’s look at the big picture for a second, then we’ll drill into a bit of detail and surface stories and tips in three areas.**As of August 4, 2011, LinkedIn has north of 120 million members, and we’re now adding more than two members every second. This is the fastest rate of absolute member growth in the company’s history. More than half of LinkedIn members are currently located outside of the United States. 3.6 Million members are employed in the nonprofit sector. As of June 30, 2011 (the end of the second quarter), LinkedIn counts executives from all 2011 Fortune 500 companies as members; our hiring solutions are used by 75 of the 100 Fortune 500 & over 6200 organizations. More than 2 million companies have LinkedIn Company Pages. There were nearly two billion people searches on LinkedIn in 2010.[See http://press.linkedin.com/about for a complete list of LinkedIn facts and stats]
  9. During my interviews, when writing the LinkedIn Nonprofit Solutions business plan, I recognized that the number of nonprofit and education members was escalating quickly, but that the number of organizations leveraging LinkedIn Hiring Solutions was growing at a much slower pace. I knew that LinkedIn, like salesforce.com four or five years ago, was charging way too much and didn’t have in-house nonprofit sector credibility. We’re lowing the barrier and dedicating resources in ways that will assure success for nonprofits.
  10. The presence you and every staff and board member of your organization have on LinkedIn can drive lots of impression to your story.Free and discounted tools LinkedIn offers can help you with research and recruiting: staff, board members, skilled volunteers, donors, partners, clients. Finally, free tools will help your engage and support key audiences.
  11. Spend 20 minutes in the ovals. Seriously. Do it. No training required on this stuff.
  12. That’s it. Have a good day. (start to walk off the stage)… Not! Sorry I do have a few more tips, I promise.
  13. Six tips live here. Write down or memorize this URL. Learn.linkedin.com
  14. Let’s use LinkedIn to build a presence shall we.
  15. Everything you add can be seen by the world- donors, partners, clients, volunteers, future staff, etc etc.
  16. Use your LinkedIn status update as you would a targeted, business edition of Twitter. You can even selectively synchronize the two from LinkedIn.com or from Twitter.com.
  17. Think of your employee base as an extension of your recruiting team. Proactively circulate tips on how they can put your company’s best foot forward on LinkedIn—through complete profiles that describe their most exciting challenges at work, and status updates about what’s going on at your company—open positions too.. Create employee ambassadors- and drive social adoption in YOUR organization!
  18. Board members networks matter.
  19. Use your work e-mail on linkedin.Admin tools- use them.Ask at topConnect everyone (especially board)
  20. Let’s build you some relationships with LinkedIn shall we?
  21. Follow companies in your industry to get the inside track on trends in your labor market. You’ll get updates on those companies’ new hires, new job opportunities, promotions or job changes within the company, and departures from the company—and you’ll be able to see who’s hiring actively, who’s losing talent, and where their talent is coming from or going to. You should also actively monitor who’s following YOUR company—these people are obviously interested in knowing what’s going on there, and this is a prime group of candidates for your own talent pipeline.
  22. We discount this stuff for most 501c3’s.
  23. Thousands of npo’s are posting on LinkedIn. Most are paying too much and not being strategic. Let’s talk.
  24. Recruiter helps you zero in on right people to recruit (for staff, advisory, mentoring, volunteer, board, etc). Then you can reach out.You can do everything with it accept solicit directly.50+ organizations of all sizes use this. It should be 5000 very soon if I have anything to do with it.
  25. Tell danny’s story.
  26. Goldilocks and the three bears. Goldie is still in my brain I guess.
  27. Let’s engage our audiences shall we?
  28. When it comes to Groups… Join many. There are more than 800,000 groups on LinkedIn, and you can set up daily or weekly Group digests. Join recruiting groups to stay up to speed on your job, or join groups that are relevant to your key talent pools—whether they’re focused on industry, role or function. They’ll help you keep your finger on the pulse of the market. Participate in a few. Get involved in a few select groups to brand yourself as an expert. Again, it’s all about building your personal brand as a recruiter. Don’t just post an open job or plug for your company here or there—when you participate, make sure it counts. Post thoughtful questions, articles the group might like, and unbiased responses to their conversations. Run one. We’ve seen our customers create groups about their companies, their industries, functional areas or niches in which they’re particularly strong—and they use these groups for employment branding, pipeline building, and even sourcing. Figure out what’s best for your company and you recruiting strategy, and go for it. And don’t forget to promote and drive traffic to your group once you’ve created it—link to it from your career page and your profile, and encourage your recruiters to do the same.
  29. Creating a poll is a great way to get intel on your industry, talent market, or really anything that’s on your mind. It’s incredibly easy—you fill out a basic form with a question and up to five answer options. That’s it! Once you’ve created your poll, make sure you select the options to share it in your LinkedIn status update and on Twitter, and post a link to the poll in your groups—this will help your poll go viral and boost your response rate.  As we mentioned earlier in the presentation, one of our LinkedIn members started a poll about whether recruiters approaching you unsolicited on LinkedIn would bother you. He received almost 14,000 responses—as well as more than 1,500 comments! Talk about a great way to leverage the network to make you more effective at your job.
  30. The presence you and every staff member of your organization have on LinkedIn can drive lots of impression to your story.Free and discounted tools LinkedIn offers can help you with research and recruiting: staff, board members, skilled volunteers, donors, partners, clients. Finally, free and discounted tools will help your engage and support key audiences.
  31. How many of you have downloaded the Outlook Social Connector for LinkedIn? This tool brings LinkedIn to where you work the most—your email inbox.  Once you’ve downloaded this free application, you’ll automatically see the latest activity from any LinkedIn connection that sends you an email. So you’ll see what articles they’re reading, what conferences they’re attending, how they’re updating their profile—even their profile picture—all right there at the bottom of your Outlook window. If you want to email a LinkedIn connection but you don’t have their email address, you can just type their name into the “to” field of your email and it will appear—no more going back and forth. And if you’re not connected to the person emailing you, you can add them as a connection with one click—without ever leaving Outlook. As a recruiter, this tool is an incredible time saver as you’re emailing with candidates, and it gives you an update on what a particular candidate is working on and thinking about in a single glance—so you can tailor your communication accordingly. You can download the Outlook Social Connector at http://www.linkedin.com/outlook.
  32. Get mobile. It’s new. Groups are on it. It rocks.
  33. Six tips live here. Write down or memorize this URL. Learn.linkedin.com
