Podcasting in the Classroom How can students get their voice heard, report school news, and promote learning using technology? For grade 5-12, this article has links and lesson resources for both students and the teacher in a classroom. Podcasting is a new method of communication allowing anyone to create audio files and post them to the Internet for others to download and listen to at any time. These audio files can be downloaded to a personal computer or handheld device such as an iPod. Podcasting also has rapidly become a new medium for both commercial and home-grown talk shows on multiple subjects. http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~nshelley/
Reflection When I first learned about Podcasting, I did not really think that it would be something that I would use in my classroom. After learning how to use, I see how useful I can be for my future students and look forward to using it. Podcasting can… -teach students technical skills -decide how they want their podcast to look -learn project skills -create positive student expression
AH HA! STEPS FOR A PODCAST: -Review computer skills and software needed for production process. -Define the purpose of the Podcast. -Organize students to participate. -Brainstorm potential topics for the Podcast with students (Weekly classroom news broadcast, document a field trip, share book reviews, etc.) -Divide up topics to pairs of students for content/script production. -Produce rough scripts with students. -Practice recording the content a few times (like a dress rehearsal). -Record the Podcast content -Edit recording in Garageband or other audio program. -Post content to Internet and RSS feed -Advertise Podcast availability to peers.
Integrating Technology in the Classroom http://www.wtvi.com/teks/05_06_articles/classroom-audio-podcasting.html
REFLECTION Getting the chance to visit these websites is an easy way for me to discover new ideas for my future classroom. I like researching new creative examples of other technologies also. I look forward to incorporating these technologies in my classroom and hopefully my students will benefit from them!
Ah-ha… There are so many Ways myself and my students can benefit from using podcasting…. podcasting is 1) cheap. 2) invites global audience. And 3)involves digital storytelling
Ideas for Podcasting Students often choose books to read based on the recommendation of their peers. A book talk is a brief overview of a book designed to raise the interest of potential readers. In many ways, it is a sales pitch for the book given by someone who has read it. The teacher should model book talks before asking students to create them. Begin by selecting one or more books to share with your class. Write a brief, engaging presentation that includes the title, author, genre, setting, and a brief summary. Remember not to give away important plot twists. You may want to describe a key moment of conflict from the book without revealing how the conflict is resolved. Then leave the audience with "If you want to know what happened, read this book!" Use language that will persuade others to read the book. Give the reasons that you liked the book and why you think others should read it. Practice your book talk. Make sure that it is brief and engaging and that it gives enough information for someone to make a decision about whether or not to read the book. Finally, make an audio recording of each student delivering his or her book talk. Each one will be an episode in the book talk podcast series from your class. Your students will be able to share their work with their families, with other classes in the school and with readers everywhere. See the resources listed on the Classroom Podcasting home page for more information about how to record and publish your podcast. http://fcit.usf.edu/podcasts/
ReFLeCTIoN The idea that is stated in the previous slide showed me a great way to integrate those types of podcasts for any classroom. You can also use these for any grade level, making it interesting for each group of students. Podcasting 101: 1-CREATE YOUR CONTENT! 2-PUT THE CONTENT ONLINE. 3-CREATE A BLOG THAT SUPPORTS PODCASTING. 4-ATTACH YOUR CONTENT TO A BLOG POST.
AHHHH HAAA! Now that I have learned all the many ways I can use this technology from the websites, I can easily make my own. Podcasting will be a great tool that I WILL use in my own classroom!!!!
