Make A Difference Day  Helping the Elder with their Hungry Pets Haley Asher & Dave Katz
Introduction  Saint Seton’s Orphaned Animals organization Helping the elderly with their hungry pets Picking up dog food and delivering to the elder who cannot get out to the stores themselves to pick up the animal food
About the Organization  Saint Seton’s Orphaned Animals is an animal welfare charity established in 2002. Their mission is the prevention of cruelty to animals. They accomplish their mission by providing loving homes for orphaned animals, preventing pet overpopulation through their financial support of spay/neuter surgeries and programs which help people keep their pets.
Organization Mission Statement They provide food and veterinary care to the pets of low income elderly people in economically disadvantage counties in VA. These individuals feed their donated food to their pets. Their program ensures proper nutrition for both the elderly person and their pets.  Also rescue homeless animals, educated the public on the importance of spay/neuter & proper care of their animals
What we will be doing? Getting instruction of where to pick up boxes Picking up in South Stafford Then travel to where the bags of animals food needs to go Delivery the bags to the elder Carrying it inside for them or wherever they need us to put it Show them how to proper feed their animals
System Request Summary Elderly people depend on their pets for companionship Due to complications some elderly may not be able to adequately take care of their pets  Example Feeding their pets Going out and getting animal food
Preliminary Investigation Findings Everyday pets bring love, laughter, and companionship to the elder Doctors, social workers, home care workers and nursing homes recommend companion animals to help the elderly lead happy and healthy lives. Birds, cats, dogs, and other animals help to keep seniors active and give them a change to nurtures and receive love in return for caring for a pet.
More Investigation Findings Elderly people may not have the ability to take care of the pets easily, therefore their companion may suffer due to this. By helping them take care of their pets, both will stay healthy.
Recommendations Students who are wishing to participate must be at least 21 years of age Able to lift 20-30 pound bags of dog food Like animals Enjoy the elder  Internet access Reliable transportation
Times and Cost Estimates Time:  4 hours once a month Cost: No real cost other then the price of fuel
Expected Benefits By helping the elderly take care of their pets we are helping to prevent the animals from suffering of hunger.
