This is a general presentation of the EU Project SCAPE, http://www.scape-project.eu from 2011. The project is about large-scale digital preservation and runs from 2011 to 2014.
2. SCAPE
SCAPE – what is it about?
• Managing computing-intensive preservation
processes such as the large-scale ingestion or
migration of large (multi-Terrabyte) data sets
SCAPE is a follow-up to the highly successful FP6 IP Planets.

SCAPE: Project Overview
SCAPE will enhance the state of the art in digital preservation in
three ways:
• Infrastructure and tools for scalable preservation actions
• A framework for automated, quality-assured preservation Takeup
workflows
Stakeholders
• Integration of these components with policy-based automated Communities
Dissemination

Sustainability
SCAPE results will be validated in three large-scale testbeds: Testbeds
• Digital Repositories Corpora

6. SCAPE
SCAlable Preservation Environments
• SCAPE addresses critical challenges that have been identified by the
Commission and key stakeholders
• SCAPE results will enable organisations
• to keep pace with the rapid growth of digital collections by providing a new
highly scalable architecture and reducing the need for human intervention
• to help ensure that their preservation actions have been effective
• to fulfill their increasing regulatory obligations
• to reduce the risks to their digital material
• If successful, SCAPE will
• transform the manner in which content holders safeguard their digital content
• increase confidence in the long-term accessibility and integrity of their
collections, at the European, national, and organisational levels
• have a profound impact on the way that digital repositories are designed and
built in order to enable scalable preservation services
