2. The Myth of Demeter Demeter is the Goddess of the harvest. She was loved by all mankind, she had beautiful and carefree daughter named Persephone. Persephone loved to play and dance in the field of wild flowers. But one day when Persephone was about to pick up a wild flower, the ground opened up. The hands of Hades reached out of the under world and grabbed Persephone to live down there with him. Hearing the cry of her beloved daughter Demeter ran down to the field searching for Persephone. But when Demeter could not find Persephone , she began to search night and day none stop. Feeling betrayed by the person who kidnapped her daughter, Demeter swore that the Earth would remain barren until Persephone was returned to her. When Zeus heard about Demeter no longer providing the Earth with fertility, Zeus had no choice but to command Hades to release Persephone back to Demeter. As Persephone was leaving the under world, Hades offered her a pomegranate to eat. Persephone has not ate anything sense she has been there so of course she very hungry. Persephone accepted the pomegranate seeds from Hades, even though she knew not to eat anything from Hades. When Demeter heard that Persephone has ate the pomegranate seeds she was very upset knowing that Persephone will have to spend part of the year down in the underworld with Hades. For this reason is why we have seasons.
3. 3 Demeter’s Strengths and Weaknesses Strengths: Demeter is a loving mother, persistence and empathic, and also controls the world’s agriculture. Weaknesses: Demeter suffers from depression, and also lived her life through her daughter.
5. Background Information Demeter was born on the universe after life came to earth and she was put there to help the farmers plant different things. Her father was Kronos who was a Titan, the son of Gaia and Uranus, and her mother was Rhea the Titan-Queen of the gods. Demeter was not married but she did have children and they were Persephone Queen of the underworld and goddess of Spring Growth, Plutos God of Agricultural wealth and arlon magical, immortal horse, first owned by Herakles then Adrastos.
