- LearningExpress Library is an online library of interactive courses, tests, and eBooks to help students and adults build academic and workplace skills. LearningExpress Library includes: Skill–building courses in math, reading, writing, and science for elementary, middle, and high school students and for adults GED preparation courses and practice exams College preparation tools Computer skills courses on many applications including Microsoft Office Hundreds of online interactive practice tests to prepare for licensing, certification, and aptitude practice tests in various occupations U. S. citizenship exam preparation Resources in Spanish for reading, writing, and math skill building and for GED preparation. LearningExpress Library also includes Job & Career Accelerator™, a comprehensive system to help job seekers find employment. Job & Career Accelerator: Provides personalized, step-by-step assistance for job seekers at all experience and education levels Helps you explore and match suitable occupations from over 1,000 detailed occupation profiles Helps you find available jobs in your area from a database of over 5 million current job postings Helps you create resumes and cover letters, master interviewing and networking techniques, improve work skills, and prepare for occupation related exams LearningExpress Library is FREE for all Ohioans to use. LearningExpress Library is available to all Ohio residents through the state's public libraries, K–12 schools, colleges and community colleges, and adult education centers. Access to all the resources in LearningExpress Library is paid for through a federal Institute of Museum and Library Services LSTA grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio.
- If participants all use the same public library system, you can also demonstrate the path to LearningExpress Library from their library’s website. See notes to slide #4.
- Users are required to register to use the courses and other interactive tools so that they may save their work, return to resources they are working on, and track their progress. LearningExpress Library does NOT require that users submit any personal information, just a user name and password. You may have the class start from their local public library’s website instead of the State Library website. This works best if all class participants use the same public library system. Make sure you check to see where the public library links to LearningExpress Library so you can guide the class. All library websites are different, and not every public library has the link prominently displayed. Newly registered users have the option to print a page containing their username and password. If your class computers have printing capabilities, you may want to have the students do this.
- Instructor, watch http://www.learnatest.com/lelImages/flash/help/AboutTheLearningCenters/index.html . Lead your class through this explanation in real time rather than having them watch the video. When you select a resource to add to “My Center”, you may click on “Start this Course Now” (or “Start this Test Now” or “Download this eBook Now”) to begin right away. Or click on “My Center” to view and access all your selected courses, tests, and eBooks. From “My Center” you may begin any test or course you have selected by clicking its “Start” button. You may begin any eBook you have selected by clicking its “Download” button. The courses, tests, and eBooks each have specific, easy-to-follow instructions to guide you as you use them.
- Based on analysis of Learning Express Library use, it is suggested that the learning activities for CYC Sustainable Broadband Adopters be focused on the following three learning centers. GED Preparation College Preparation (ACT Prep and the resources available for parents to help their child prepare for the ACT Test) Computer Skills
- If you want to stop in the middle of a test and finish it later, simply click “Continue Later” at the top of the window. All the answers you have already entered will be saved. When you return to the test from “My Center”, you will be able to continue the test from the place you stopped. If you want to stop in the middle of a course and finish it later, click on “My Center” in the top of the window to leave the course. LearningExpress Library will remember where you stopped, and will start you at that point next time you select the same course. The Computer Skills courses do not offer this feature. You may stop and start the Computer Skills courses as many times as you like, but you will have to remember where you stopped to begin again from that point. You may add as many resources to “My Center” as you like. You may delete a resource from “My Center” by clicking its “trash can” button.
