We are in troubleLagging in productivity and innovation15th – surpassed by Germanyand South Korea18th in ability to use tech for businessCanada a mid-level economic playerTime for study is overWe need to take actionWe have work to doImpacts our standard of livingIt’s good today…but what about tomorrow?Averaged >1% for 10 years1% annual growth = 2X in 72 yearsNot good enoughWhat about our children’s futureIf Canada kept pace with U.S. last 20 years$7,500 more disposable dollars40% higher profits for biz31% more federal government revenue
Many CIOs also understand the value the network brings to the business. They are tasked with delivering the best tools to enable the business and drive employee productivity. But the CIO must also balance the needs of the users with the needs of the business – ensuring the business is secure and its IP is protected. How does the CIO deliver a “work, your way” experience that the next generation demands?
Global economies in transitionIt’s always the time to actOpportunity or peril for Canada?Innovation and productivity are crucial
A third stakeholder in the network is the end-user. Executives want to attract the best-and-brightest of the next generation workforce to bring fresh ideas and revitalize their companies. But some of the rules have changed. In a recent survey of college students and young professionals, two fifths said they would accept a lower-paying job that had more flexibility with regard to device choice, social media access, and mobility than a higher-paying job with less flexibility. Money is no longer the only motivator. And increasing salaries until the other factors diminish in importance? That’s not the side of the equation you want to be on.Governments around the world will rely on the millenials for their operations as the baby boom generation retires. For example, more than ¼ of all federal workers in the US are already eligible to retire. Government leaders need to attract these young workers into the public workforce.
What will it take to create these cities/communities… new visionary leadership & the creation of New Business Models.Imagine the huge opportunity for new services. Technology will be the key enabler.Only 2% of infrastructure spend – 2% of a trillion dollars is spent on technology – even an increase of 1%? To enable this we should together drive:Visionary leadership is key – finding people with similar mindsets, passion and vision for the future…that’s really key.Global open standards – this is what we do! We did it 25 years ago with the internet…bringing together different protocols and making them all work together. That’s not something just anyone can do.Smart regulation – we need leaders to step up….LEED certification….give benefits to people who implementPublic private partnerships – this has been key to our success so far.And a New ecosystem – working with developers, people like Schneider ElectricBut it takes all five of these factors…without one, it changes completely.
The Inspirational wrap-up At this point, hopefully the customer is convinced of the value of work your way, and realize that they need a workspace strategy – no matter where they are on the spectrum.Transition to the next phase of the conversation – how Cisco, as a trusted business partner, can help them develop and implement that strategy.
