2. brennan | collins architects + planners Brennan Collins Architects + Planners was set up in 2007 by its two directors, Richard Collins and Margaret Brennan as an architectural and urban design based practice committed to innovative and sustainable design. BCAP have completed many commissions in both the public and private sector recently including several large scale urban design schemes, housing projects and residential work. Spatial Planning Richard qualified as an Architect and more recently as a Planner when he completed a Masters Degree in Spatial Planning from Dublin Institute of Technology. Upon graduation he worked in Berlin for a number of years returning to work with O’Mahony Pike Architects and Urban Designers which he joined in 1998. Here he developed a particular interest in residential development and high-density housing. As a Senior Architect and Planner in the Urban Design team, he gained extensive experience in urban design, master planning and in the preparation of Local Area Plans within both the public and the private sectors. He is also an external tutor in both the graduate and post graduate planning courses in DIT. Margaret Brennan Dip. Arch.; B. Arch. Sc.; MRIAI Upon graduating as an architect from DIT in 1992, Margaret worked with practices in Hanover and Berlin. She returned in 1997 to work on a series of high profile jobs with Newenham Mulligan Associates. In 2001 she joined the National Building Agency where she developed her interest in Local Authority and Social Housing as well as several public space projects. The area is predominantly residential as is its zoning. As part of a modernisation process the printworks were to relocate to a more modern premises. The development consists of a total of 45 number one and two bedroom apartments and duplexes. The site development works comprise of a private landscaped deck area above the underground carpark along with private maintained garden areas surrounding each block. Fortunately their corner dwelling had a considerable rear garden which allowed for the development of the corner site. The proposed dwelling is a large detached two bedroom house of approx. 112 sq.m. 11. brennan | collins architects + planners Gaelscoil Oisin Gael Scoil Oisin, Dublin, 12 Feasibility Gael Scoil Oisin is a feasibility study for a new primary school in Dublin 12 to cater for a growing number of parents and pupils who wish to avail of an irish speaking primary education. The school proposed is to cater for a phased increase in pupil numbers over 6 years from 60 to 160 pupils. This must allow for a school that can handle a phased expansion without compromising the function of the school. 14. brennan | collins architects + planners Cork South Docks Local Area Plan Cork South Docks LAP Adopted February 2008 The regeneration of the Cork South Docks Area will be a major element in the achievement of Cork’s Gateway status as set out in the National Spatial Strategy BCAP acted in a consultancy basis with O’Mahony Pike Architects to provide the architectural and urban design analysis for the Local Area Plan. The Plan’s targets will be achieved through the development of a high density urban quarter which will be based around a new District Centre and two Neighbourhood Centres. Good planning, architectural design and efficient use of space illustrates how appropriate higher density can enhance and enrich the existing urban landscape. BCAP contributed to this document in providing examples of analysis and concept proposals for case studies looking at various urban typologies . 17. brennan | collins architects + planners Kent Station, Horgans Quay, Cork Kent Station, Horgans Quay Pre - Planning Manor Park Homes are developing a 17 acre brown field site that runs the length of Horgan’s Quay in Cork docklands. The proposed development will include the new Kent Rail Station which will front onto the River Lee. The possibilities of such a site so close to the centre of Cork city mark this as one of the country’s major urban regeneration projects. BCAP worked in consultancy with O’Mahony Pike Architects in the preparation of a Masterplan Study for the site in question as requested by Cork City Council prior to the lodging of any planning applications. 18. brennan | collins architects + planners Rear Garden,Dublin, 6 Rear Garden, Dublin, 6 Complete The rear garden of an Edwardian redbrick allowed for a Design to develop a system terraced spaces on various different levels. These spaces became a seating area, a lawn, a pond, a storage space and a lower level deck area. The brick was chosen to match the existing brick. It is a strong feature used to develop dwarf walls, planters and a feature pond. The sandstone paving slabs are surrounded By granite pavers. The borders are planted with various bamboos, architectural feature plants and herbacious perrenials. 19. brennan | collins architects + planners Street Garden,Dublin, 6 Street Garden, Dublin, 6 Complete The front garden of an Edwardian redbrick was redeveloped to allow for the reinstatement of the original path, and the existing lawn was replaced with a sandstone pebble, with a central formal rectangle of granite setts. Inside this the partially raised bed was edged in Box hedging, framing tulips, grasses, acer bushes and hostas. The railings are bookended by two minature acers.
