WHAT DO YOU KNOW
ABOUT MENTORS OR
COACHES?
These are people who gained high respect from the public. At some point, they are
viewed as well experienced in their chosen field.People believe in them most of the
time and it seems that everything they say is right. Unfortunately, not all is right,
just that people view them as a perfect person who knows best.
In the online community, coaching programs are booming and many individuals are
starting their own coaching programs or training. Does having that kind of business
make them a coach? Not at all! But their confidence with this field makes them a
COACH!
Why am I telling you about these? The truth is, as a leader you should be viewed as
a coach and mentor, not a BOSS! In real setting, every boss gained respect because
of the employee's fears they have toward. But a mentor or coach gains respect not
because of fear, rather because of trust people give to them.
As a leader, you look at the top view of every situation. You look at the inner skills
that your employee has. It doesn't mean that once you know their potentials, then
you can ask them to work to their maximum limit.
Leader will always be part of a team. And as the head of every team, you have full
responsibility on how you could enrich the lives and careers of your members. It will
not be easy to develop them, ofcourse it will be hard for you to motivate them if
what they have towards you is FEAR not Trust.
You cannot force people to do something which you don't do. Leaders live by example.
And leaders should live as a Mentor!
Before you think of plans how you're team would better work together, plan first on
how your team would be united, on how they will view you as a higly respected mentor.
You need to change your mindset as a leader. Instead of giving negative comments,
give them compliments!

2. What Do You Know About Mentors Or Coaches
.........................................................................................................................................................................
Do you remember you student life? What does your Physical Education Coach do?
Everytime you feel tired and feel like giving up, what do they say? Do they say STOP?
Or do they say, quot;you can do itquot;?
Again, every coach or mentor tasks is to acknowledge every improvements their
members do. Just like a coach, do the same thing. Act like a mentor who give
meaningful compliments.
There is a person named David Quelch who is leading expert in leadership and
management development. He says that: quot; They're very much in a coaching role, rather
than to develop a report for a file that's going to determine your promotion. The goal is
to enhance the effectiveness of the asset (the new faculty member) that we've invested
in.quot;
The ultimate success a leader can accomplish is that when he stops leading, still
his members continue. And I guess the greatest reward a leader can have is
knowing that his impact to the team, make his members talented, much confident
and acts as a leader to each other.
