The document discusses the new gTLD program and its significance. It notes that over 70% of internet users are crammed into the .com domain, and new gTLDs will expand address availability. It outlines some major applicants, including Google, Amazon, Donuts, and Radix Registry. Radix has applied for 31 gTLDs, the largest registrar applicant portfolio. The document argues the program will dramatically change the domain industry and shift power to registrars. It positions Directi and Radix Registry to take advantage of these changes.

One of the old timers. Joined Directi when we were 40 ppl1500 sq. foot office Had the good fortune of workin on a highly diverse set of projects. Kicking Product management, Registry Relations. I was also incharge of setting of ad-syndication team with skenzo.. Somehow got myself doing that too. Today:- Narrow down my focus - Continue to lead LogicBoxesThe 12-15 months lead our foray into the registry business. Radix – highly ambitious project to win the rights to and run the top newgtlds. And then.pw; more on that later.. Handle Prod Magament for Domains – Centrallly across all BUs and my team is in chage of expanding our portfolio of TLD and introducing new domain name rel features. Try and represent direct on business and policy matters at ICANN meetings. Remain anevalgilist and speak regularly on this subject at hosting events.
NewgTLDs: The need and ans the q as to wheather it is really such a big deal…
For a sec; let us all Start with over 70% of domain names in gTLDs are .com … so if gTLDs are countries over 70% of the world’s population would reside in one single country Over 65% of names checked for availablity are unavailable .com doesn’t really mean anything. Addresses are not meaningful don’t saything about me or my business. Lawyers, businesses banks, professionals.... If im a lawyer I should probably be on a .law, bank, .bank.. That would be a lot more meaningful Registries are increasing their prices at roughly this priceSetup a online bnusiness and I want a really strong pretegious address; they are rare and therefore really expensive. Flipkart has to go for a kart with a ‘k’Polices are age-old and changes to the policy are hard to make. New country can set new laws, before I open up the country. If gTLDs were countries this is the world we’d be living in….
If gTLDs were countries ICANN would be playing the part of UN.. There is a whole planet is unoccupied. Lets develop those countries
Current problems – Lack of scarcity and brings us a more meaningful internet. It is a big deal which will change the internet foreover.
