Stellar Performance In 2010 Figures released by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) in August 2010 show that the country experienced an impressive surge in visitor arrivals in the first seven months of the year. Between January and July, 2.9mn visitors came to Vietnam, which meant 34.9% growth year-on-year (yo- y). This momentum accelerated into the high season summer months, with tourist arrivals growing by 51.1% y-o-y in July to 420,000 arrivals. Vietnam's performance is one of the best in the region and suggests that the country has been able to take advantage of the reviving global tourism industry to increase its market share. A number of high profile global campaigns have been launched, attempting to attract tourists to Vietnam, which has traditionally experienced less tourism than neighbouring Thailand. Vietnam may even be benefiting from elevated levels of social unrest in Thailand, with some tourists choosing to go to Vietnam instead. It also enjoys considerable regional tourism, with arrivals from China growing by 95.4% y-o-y in the first seven months of 2010, arrivals from South Korea up by 31.1% and the number of Cambodian visitors increasing by 93.1%. BMI remains positive about Vietnam's prospects in 2010 and we expect arrivals to maintain this positive trajectory. New Casino Gets The Go-Ahead As in many other countries in the region, it is illegal for Vietnamese nationals to gamble and therefore international casino institutions are strictly controlled, with only four casinos operating in the country. The government is slowly opening up the sector, allowing for the construction of more casino resorts. In April 2010, Vancouver-based Asia Coast Development announced that it will open a Las Vegas-style coastal resort called the Ho Tram Strip. The US$4.2bn coastal area development will include five resorts, two of which will include casinos. Of these, the first casino to open will be operated by Las Vegas' MGM Mirage and will be called the MGM Grand Ho Tram. The resort's US$400mn hotel has a licence for 180 table games and 2,000 electronic games. Third Private Airline Launches Demonstrating the strong market potential in Vietnam, the country's third ever private airline will begin operations in October 2010. Air Mekong is to be based on the island of Phu Quoc, in the Mekong Delta region, and will operate flights to four domestic destinations. It will use four Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft and is scheduled to begin flights on October 10 2010. The airline is partly owned by the private company Mekong Aviation Joint Stock, with the US airline SkyWest holding a minority stake. Air Mekong is launching at a positive time. One of the country's other private carriers, Indochina Airlines, was officially declared bankrupt in December 2009 and has ceased flying. Air Mekong will therefore hope to take over much of the defunct airline's market share.

Stellar Performance In 2010
Figures released by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) in August 2010 show that the country experienced an
impressive surge in visitor arrivals in the first seven months of the year. Between January and July, 2.9mn visitors came to Vietnam,
which meant 34.9% growth year-on-year (yo- y). This momentum accelerated into the high season summer months, with tourist

Vietnam's performance is one of the best in the region and suggests that the country has been able to take advantage of the reviving
global tourism industry to increase its market share. A number of high profile global campaigns have been launched, attempting to

Korea up by 31.1% and the number of Cambodian visitors increasing by 93.1%. BMI remains positive about Vietnam's prospects in
2010 and we expect arrivals to maintain this positive trajectory.
New Casino Gets The Go-Ahead
As in many other countries in the region, it is illegal for Vietnamese nationals to gamble and therefore international casino institutions
are strictly controlled, with only four casinos operating in the country. The government is slowly opening up the sector, allowing for the
construction of more casino resorts. In April 2010, Vancouver-based Asia Coast Development announced that it will open a Las

Ho Tram. The resort's US$400mn hotel has a licence for 180 table games and 2,000 electronic games.
Third Private Airline Launches
Demonstrating the strong market potential in Vietnam, the country's third ever private airline will begin operations in October 2010.
Air Mekong is to be based on the island of Phu Quoc, in the Mekong Delta region, and will operate flights to four domestic
destinations. It will use four Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft and is scheduled to begin flights on October 10 2010. The airline is partly
