These instructional slides will take you through the steps to help you with the application process for the English Program in Korea (EPIK) and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE).
2. Diplomas are considered to be state-level documents, as they
are issued by a state institution. FBI checks are considered a
federal-level document, as they are issued by the federal
government. Therefore, diplomas must be apostilled by a
state-level office and FBI Checks must be apostilled by a
federal-level office.
There are document authentication services, however, that
can apostille both documents for you.
Federal and State Apostilles
3. Option 1: Take the photocopy of your diploma to your local
County Clerk’s office or a bank to have it notarized. Some
states require the notarization to be certified. Please check
with the Secretary of State’s office in your state to find out if
your state requires the notarization to be certified in order to
receive an apostille. If this is needed the County Clerk’s
office can certify the notarization as well. Then send the
notarized photocopy of your diploma to your Secretary of
State’s office for the apostille.
Option 2. Use an authentication service. Send the photocopy
of your diploma to US Legalization and they will get it
notarized and apostilled. It is quicker and more convenient,
but it will cost a bit more money. The cost is $45 per
document. All the information you need is here.

4. Your FBI Check is already notarized when you receive it
back from the FBI. To have your original FBI Check
apostilled you have two options:
Option 1 (Recommended): Use an authentication service.
You send the FBI Check to US Legalization and they will get
it notarized and apostilled. It is much quicker, but it will cost
a bit more money. The cost is $45 per document. All the
information you need is here.
Option 2 (Not Recommended): Do it yourself. Send your
FBI Check to the US Department of State and have it
apostilled. Information on this process can be found here.
***We highly recommend that you use an authentication
service to apostille your FBI Check as it will save you a lot of
time and makes the process much easier.
