Deciduous forest
1.
2. Latitude:
• Latitude: The latitude range is anywhere from 23 ° north to
38 ° south.
Specific area/names:
• Deciduous forests can be found in the eastern half of North
America, and the middle of Europe.
• There are many deciduous forests in Asia (30 to 45
latitude, 130 to 145 east longitude) , examples in China:
China Plain, Manchurian Mixed.
• Some of the major areas that they are in are southwest
Russia, Japan, and eastern China. South America has two
big areas of deciduous forests in southern Chile and Middle
East coast of Paraguay.
• There are deciduous forests located in New Zealand and
south eastern Australia also.
3. Precipitation:
• Precipitation in the Deciduous forest is spread through
out the year.
• During the winter months precipitation is frozen.
• Animals who live in the deciduous forest must adjust to
cold winters and hot summers
Temperature:
• The average annual temperature in a deciduous forest is
50° F. The average rainfall is 30 to 60 inches a year.
4.
5. • Altitude: On mountainsides, deciduous trees grow up to
elevations where the coniferous trees begin, at
approximately 9,000 feet (2,743 meters) above sea level.
• They are not well adapted to the colder, drier conditions
higher up.
• Below this, deciduous forests are found at many different
elevations.
6. • Trees: Deciduous trees are: maple, oak, birch, beech,
aspen, poplar, locust, elm, hickory, basswood, etc.
• They have had adaptations like losing leaves yearly to
conserve energy, water and to replace any damaged
leaves.
• The smaller plants have adaptations to grow in the
shade.
• Animals: The animals adapt to the climate by hibernating
in the winter and living off the land in the other three
seasons.
• The animals have adapted to the land by eating the
plants in the forest as a good supply of food.
• Also the trees provide shelter for them, so they use the
trees for food/water sources.
• Animals also use camouflage
7. • A lot of deciduous forests have lost land to farms and
towns. Although people are trying to protect the forests
some poachers are trying to kill the animals in the
forests.
• The animals are losing their homes because of people
building their homes.
• Many trees are cut for logging.
