Unit 1 Unit Pricing and Currency Exchange
Goal: The goal of this chapter is to familiarize you with getting the
best price for items, sales promotions, and currency exchange.
Objectives: During this unit you will consider proportional reasoning, unit
pricing, setting a price, sale pricing, and currency exchange rates. You will be
exposed to different terms such as: Ratio, Proportion, Rate, Unit price, Unit rate,
Markup, Percent, Promotion, Buying rate, Currency, Exchange rate, and Selling
rate
What Needs to be Done:
Unit one has 4 sections: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5. Each section in unit one has an
accompanied video to enhance your understanding of the section material. There

43-44 Look at Figure 1.2. The Bank buying rate means what rate the bank gives you for
the foreign currency that you are bringing into the bank. The Bank selling rate is
when you buy foreign currency from the bank.
46 Go over Example 2.

18 Divide the seconds into the distance. 1500 m / 115.27 seconds = 13.01 metres/second
21 $0.0497 x 50 = $2.49
31 $49.95 x 25 = 1248.75 and $54.95 x 25 = 1373.75. It would be $125.00 less.
36 Estimate the sale price to be $800.00
42 The hotel is about $156.00 Cdn.
