Since this is our first magazine “Gravity”, no doubt something should
be said in justification of its appearance. The purpose of its making is
implied in its name. In its literal sense, “Gravity” is the force that attracts
the body towards the earth, or any other physical body having mass. In the
same manner we think that this
magazine will grab you towards
itself.
The hidden secret behind the
triumph of this magazine is our
team cohesiveness. In this
magazine we have plenty of
interesting articles such as a
thrilling cricket match report, an
exciting tour by train, a heart
touching real life story, biographies
of Michael Jordon, A.R. Rahman,
Nelson Mandela,
Steve job, book
reviews and so on.
As Salvador Dali
said, “Have no fear for
perfection, you’ll never reach it”
this magazine may not be perfect because this is our novelty magazine; but
we have tried our level best to make it perfect. I guarantee that the person
reading this may enjoy our magazine to the fullest.

T
he train guard, who is smartly
dressed in white trousers, tunic
jacket on his shirt and black tie,
blew the whistle and waved his
green flag, to signal the departure of Podi
Menike. This train (called "Little Maiden"
in English) heading to Badulla, 290km
from Colombo, was expected to take ten
hours to travel slowly through tea-clad hill
country to reach its destination.
By Rashmi Mendis
Usually this train leaves the Colombo Fort station at 5.55am, as done for
decades. Udarata Menike ("Upcountry Maiden") which is called the sister train of “Podi
Manike” leaves the Fort at about 9.45am every day, but it doesn't arrive to Badulla until
after the nightfall.
The origins of this wonderful trip by train dates back to the origin of the tea
industry in Ceylon back then. The first train was headed to the hill country in 1867, and
tea also was commercially planted in Sri Lanka in the same year. The coming of the
railway to the hill country helped the planters to send their crop to Colombo for further
transactions.
In 1894 the railway track was extended up to Bandarawela as tea production
spread much more in hill country. Later, after 30 years it reached Badulla. Udarata
Menike was the 15th train introduced. 44 seats in the Observation Saloon has the
highest demand and reservations can be made up to ten days in advance. The four
window-facing seats at the rear gives an amazing panoramic view of the steady climb
from magnificent forest to lowland suburbs, tea plantation and waterfalls of the hill
country.

gradually increase its speed
passing through Maradana.
The train increases its speed
gradually over the concrete
sleepers up to Kandy. Then the
climb starts in earnest after
Rambukkana, the station which
is closest to the Elephant
Orphanage. From there the
railway track becomes single
and the train stops to get the
token from the stationmaster which confirms that the track is clear. Then the train
reaches the Kadugannawa station which is at 517m above sea level.
Then the train reaches
station of Peradeniya (which is
the closest station to the Royal
Botanical Gardens). Then the
train's crew changes at
Nawalapitiya, and vendors
swarm along the platform
offering fruits and various
kinds of snacks.
Pine trees and Tea bushes share the hillsides as the train reach to Hatton which
is 1,271m above sea level. Arrival of the train to the Poolbank Tunnel which is the
longest tunnel in the country is welcome with shrieks of delight from children in the
train. The Hydro Power
Plant at Upper Kotmale is
visible from three places in
the journey, mainly the
picturesque view gives rise
when the train reaches the
tiny station named Great
Western. Usually most of
the passengers leave the
train at the next station,
Nanu Oya.

The temperature gradually goes
down as the train climbs Pattipola, which
is the highest station in the country,
which locates at 1,891m from the sea
level. More than a dozen tunnels are
passed when the train reaches from
Pattipola to Ohiya station. When the
train reaches Haputale the steep
gradually increases.
The train reaches the bustling
town of Bandarawela after passing
through tidy station of Diyatalawa, famous for serving a military encampment and
more tea gardens. From there the train descends - with occasional halts at small
stations like Hali Ela to Badulla.
Then the train crosses a bridge of nine arches and halts at Demodara .Actually
this station is quite important as the track is constructed in a way that it will decrease
the slope .Then the finally the train reaches Badulla. Only few passengers remain to
alight at the high-roofed, quiet station where nothing much seems to be changed since
1924.
During the journey the train passes through 44 tunnels, large number of bridges, and
also through some of the most picturesque sceneries like waterfalls and valleys.

Steve Jobs the legend who created the new era of touch system. He was born
in February 24th 1955 in San Francisco California. His biological parents are Abdulfattah
John Jandali and Joanne Carole Schieble, but he was soon adopted by Paul Reinhold
Jobs and Clara Jobs. Paul as a mechanic and a carpenter gave his son a wider knowledge
of electronics and as an accountant Clara taught her son to read before he went to
school.
After primary schooling Jobs went to Homestead High School to exceed his
studies; where he made friends with Bill Fernandez and Steve Wozniak who were the
founders of “The cream soda computers”. This name was kept because they drank
cream soda frequently when they worked there.
After schooling he started his studies at Reed College in Portland. But he
dropped out of college after his first semester and started auditing classes at Reed.
Later Jobs said “If I had never dropped in on that single calligraphy course in college, the
Mac would have never had multiple typefaces proportionally spaced fonts”. He slept on
the floor and earned some money for his food and education by returning the empty
coke bottles and he went to Hare a Krishna temple just to eat a free meal.
Jobs and Wozniak created a machine called “blue box” which can make free
phone calls; they sell them illegally and made money. This was their first step to Apple
computers.
In 1976 they made the “Apple Computer Company”; they named it “Apple” as
a remembrance of Job’s happy summer holidays which he had spent picking apples.
Their first step to earn money was by sold circuit boards. Apple 1 computer was
invented by them in Job’s home garage.

On July 18, 1918 Rohihlaha Mandela was born in Transkei, South Africa. His
father was a Tembu Thribeian named Hendry Mphakanyiswa and his mother was
Nosekeni Fanny. In accordance with the custom to give all school children Christian
names his teacher Miss Mdingabe at primary school in Qunu, gave him the name
Nelson.
Unfortunately his father died when he was a child and with the family pressure
at that time young Mandela committed for his education. Nelson Mandela completed
his junior certificate at Clarkebury Boarding Institute and went to a Wesleyan secondary
school in Healdtown. After this Mandela was educated at University of Wiwatersrand
and completed his degree successfully and became a lawyer in 1942.
Due to very unfortunate incidents he saw in his day to day life and some
experiences he went through been a black, he joined the African National Congress in
1944. In the same year he got married to Evelyn Mase, a nurse. He had two sons Madiba
Thembkile and Makgatho and two daughters both called Makaziwe, but they divorced
in 1958.
Due to his continuous political movements he was arrested. He spent an
unlucky life in prison. He could not see his mother after the Revonia trial in 1968. Even
though he was in prison he encouraged his children Makgatho and Makaziwe to study
well. In the 1970s he had to face the most unlucky incident a child could have. His
mother died of a heart attack. He immediately made a request to the commanding
officer to be permitted to attend her funeral in Transkei which was rejected. He could
not bury his mother which was his responsibility as the eldest and only child. His
mother's death caused him to look back and evaluate his own life and he felt guilty
about whether had he made a mistake in serving the whole black population neglecting
his family.
In 1969 his second wife Winnie without any charge under
the 1967 Terrorism act. This kind of unfortunate incidents made
Mandela to think over and over about what he had done to his
family. During this time he experienced another grievous loss.
One morning he was called to the main office and handed a
telegram. It was to tell that his first and eldest son Madiba
Thembkile, called “Themei” had died of a motor car
accident. What can one say about such a tragedy? Being a
father he could not attend to his own son's funeral. After
27 years imprisonment, he was released on 11th
February 1990. But he continued his political

The Nikon Df offers a
creative approach to photography
and this is considers to by the
Nikon’s lightest, smallest Fx-fomat
body yet providing same exceptional
image quality as D4. This also is a

inspire the photographers to reach
the new levels in creativity and stimulate the artistic sensibilities.
As you can see earlier generation film cameras
has inspired the camera's appearance. In fact, the Df
totally looks like an oversized Nikon FM from the front
view (not dissimilar to Canon's F1N). It allows to use
pre-1977 non-AI lenses and the inclusion of a meter
which is retractable coupling tab is the Df's another nod
to Its company's history.
The effect seems to be rather intriguing for those who raised on film SLRs. We
are quite sure that the DF has been making at least four years. Also the glee creators is
very much palpable in the various specific design cues obviously such as from the
professional-targeted, long-lived Nikon F3 and earlier SLRs including the FM/2.

Book: Swami and Friends R.K. Narayan
Publication Year: 1935
Publisher: Hamish Hamilton, London
Number of Pages: 212
Genre/s: Fiction, Novel
**MEMORIES BACK TO SCHOOL**
PLOT:The Story “Swami and Friends” is about a 10 year
old boy named Swami who is very weak and lazy
in his work and doesn't concentrate on his studies
during school hours. His friends Somu, Mani,
Rajam and Shankar are also like him
The story moves on with Swami's adventures
which relate to his hectic life at school; the most
fun and irritating time with his friends; his
greatest time at the Malgudi Cricket Club and at home with his grandmother who
makes him feel bored by telling him her stories.
The setting of the story is in the 1930's in a village called Malgudi which is situated in
India; actually Malgudi doesn’t exist in India as it has been created by R.K. Narayan for
his fiction Stories. The story takes us back to the lifestyle of Indian people in that era.
The main characters in the story are:
Swami- The leading character of the story who is not brave enough to face obstacles
but still ends up succeeding. Swami is a weak student who doesn’t concentrate during
class hours and spends most of his time daydreaming. He has been punished several
times for not paying attention. He is the type of boy who loves to get on with friends
and have fun all time.
Grandmother- She is the one who cares for Swami the most in the family with her care
and stories.
Father- A very busy person with his work; and who is very strict on Swami not letting
him mess up.
His Friends- Swami's friends are Mani, Rajam, Shankar, Samuels and Somu.
Mani: who is known as ‘good for nothing’ as well as a ‘last bencher’. He is the weakest
in the class who doesn’t bother about studying.
Next is Rajam: who is the richest boy in the class well known for dressing well; he is
the son of a police superintendent of Malgudi.

Book Reviews
Next is Shankar: The brightest boy in the class who always gets top marks among the
other students in the class. He always manges to cross the ninety percent mark in his
exams.
Next is Samuels: who is very small in size and is known as 'Pea' among the students in
his class. He is not a very bright student neither a weaker student, he maintains an
average level of performance. Finally Somu: The monitor of the class; he is known for
his calmness but is not really a bright student but shines.
POSITIVE AND NEGATIVES REVIEWS ON “SWAMI AND FRIENDS”:The story is lively throughout with adventures and some serious situations Swami and
his friends face. The characters are well presented and given the opportunity except
for Swami's mother who doesn’t have a vital role in this story.
The author has focused on bringing out humour here and there in the story to bring
out some mini laughs to the reader. The story doesn’t have much suspense or thrill
but R.K. Narayanan has mainly focused on writing a novel of a boy's daily lifestyle.
When considering the positives of the story it can be that it takes us back to school
and reminds us of the bored and irritating time we had at school with our teachers,
like Swami had with his headmaster Vedanayagam and the Scripture Master Mr.
Ebenzar. It also reminds us of the fun time we had with our friends.
On the other hand the negative aspects of this story can be said that the story is flat
without many interesting incidents; there are some incidents in the story which
doesn’t meet up to the expectations; which sometimes can make the readers bored
as the story goes on for 212 pages with the same theme throughout. So if R.K Narayan
had brought some interesting parts in which can make the reader engaged then
“Swami and Friends” would have gained more audience; as readers who expects some
suspense in stories will miss out “Swami and Friends”
BOTTOM LINE:
On the whole, even though there are some parts missing as mentioned above the
story is lively and pleasant which will definitely attract many audiences. Therefore, I
would strongly recommend this book to the readers who are missing their school life,
as the story “Swami and Friends” brings back the memories of being in school.

Book: Five little pigs by Agatha Christie
Publication Date: May, 1942
Publisher: Dodd, Mead and Company
Number of pages: 263 pages
Genre/s: Crime Novel
Carla Crale a young woman in her early twenties lost her
parents at her small age. Her father Amyas Crale who was a famous
painter was killed and her mother Caroline was sent to prison for
the crime. She died one year after the trial. But before her death
she had written a mysterious letter addressed to Carla proclaiming
her innocence. It-’s been sixteen years since the marcher and Carla
wants detective Poirot to re-investigate this case.
The author Agatha Christie made a great deal of effort to keep the readers in suspense till
the end. Mainly I love her stories because of the simple language she uses and the way the cases
are investigated. I was attracted to this book because of the title “Five Little Pigs”.
The beauty of this story is that the case is sixteen years old. No cigar ashes, no foot prints,
no concrete clues to investigate this case, instead all written documents and the people who are
present at the time of the murder is there to investigate. Poirot finds some exciting ways to handle
this case.
One negative aspect of this book is it is bit lengthy and in some places you get annoyed
just because of the inquisitive feeling you have to find the murderer. I couldn’t sleep at nights until
I finished this book because the story makes you to suspect each and every one present at the
time of the murder.
Amyas Crale was poisoned; the first suspicion comes here because Caroline is an
unbalanced lady but not a good planner to poison her husband and Amyas is not that kind of a guy
who would commit suicide. So Poirot’s hunt starts here. The death took place when Amyas was
engaged on a portrait.
He then interviews the five people who were present at the murder - they are Meredith
Blake (bit of a chemist whose coniine solution was used to murder Amyas), Philip Blake (Amya’s
best friend and a stockbroker), Elsa Greer (a young lady who had an affair with Amyas and who sat
for the portrait), Angela Warren (Caroline’s half-sister; fifteen years old), Cecilia Williams (the
governess who is hired to teach Angela).
The rest of the novel consists of the statements given by this five people. The fantastic
point comes at the end when Poirot reveals the murderer. I love the narration and the way we get
to know about the characters.
I will rate this book with four stars. I reduced one star only because of the extended
descriptions at times. Regardless of the description this is a wonderful book to read. I love the way
Poirot answers the questions of who murdered Amyas Crale; is it Caroline his wife? If so why did
she write a letter like that? If not who murdered him and why?
I promise you that the curiosity will never end until the last page. The line I love most in
this book is “you will all agree, I think that that is a very remarkable letter. A beautiful letter too,
but certainly remarkable. For there is one striking omission in it - it contains no protestation of
innocence. ”
On the whole I will recommend this book only for the people who have patience to read
because I loved the narration but at times got exasperated because of the too detailed
descriptions. As the idiom “slow and steady wins the race” says, I guarantee the person who read
this book fully will end up with a nice mysterious story.

Book: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
Publication year: 1876
Publisher: American Publishing Company
Genre/s: Bildungsroman, Picaresque, Satire, Folk, Children's Novel
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is one of
the best tales written by Mark Twain which was
published in 1876. The story focuses around
Tom Sawyer. This boy lives in the Mississippi
River town of St. Petersburg Missouri with his
aunt Polly and his cousin brother, Sid. One day
after playing hooky from school and making his
cloths untidy in a fight, Tom is forbidden to
watch TV and he was asked to white wash the
fence as a punishment by his aunty Polly. But
this tricky, cunning boy uses his friends to white
wash the fence. With the flow of the story, this
boy falls in love with a girl called Becky but later
the affair break off and then Tom accompanies Huckleberry Finn, the son of town
drunk, to the graveyard at night to try out a cure forwards. While their research goes
on, they witness a violent crime. Being afraid of their safety both promise each other
to keep what they saw that night a secret. What do you think will happen next? I'd like
you to read and experience the adventure and enjoy the book yourselves rather than
my telling it in my own words.
Tom is a realistic character that we can see in society at any time. This book
may not interest some readers because the author uses bigoted language. Though
many of you doesn't like reading, I'd like to tell you this book is as entertaining as the
animated TV series, I got stuck to the book and I myself laughed at Tom and Huck's
pranks; I got mad when aunty Polly beat Tom. But unfortunately Tom is not a role
model for the children. Because he smokes, sneaks out at midnight, runs away from
home and start fights. Children tend to role play at this age, also the personality
development is a peak, so children may try to imitate him.
I'm giving this book a 4 star rating because I enjoyed it very much, and I would
have given a 5 star rating if Twain did not marketed it as a children's book.

in Phoenix,” the operator replied. “Do you have a street name?” The young man
hesitated, and then said, “Well, most people call me Ice Man.”
A man tells his doctor that
he’s incapable of doing all the things
around the house that he used to do.
When the examination is over, he
says, “Okay, Doctor. In plain
English—what’s wrong with me?”
“Well, in plain English,” says the
doctor, “you’re just lazy.” The man
nods. “Now give me the medical
term so I can tell my wife.”

Advice
Top ten healthy tips
1. Laugh and cry. Having a good sob is
reputed to be good for you. So is
laughter, which has been shown to help
heal bodies, as well as broken hearts.
Studies in Japan indicate that laughter
boosts the immune system and helps
the body shake off allergic reactions.
2. Don’t skip breakfast. Studies show that
eating a proper breakfast is one of the
most positive things you can do if you
are trying to lose weight. Breakfast
skippers tend to gain weight. A balanced
breakfast includes fresh fruit or fruit
juice, a high - fiber breakfast cereal, lowfat milk or yoghurt, whole-wheat toast,
and a boiled egg.
3. Brush up on hygiene. Many people don't know how to brush their teeth properly.
Improper brushing can cause as much damage to the teeth and gums as not brushing
at all. Lots of people don’t bru sh for long enough, don’t floss and don’t see a dentist
regularly. Hold your toothbrush
in the same way that would hold
a pencil, and brush for at least
two minutes. This includes
brushing the teeth, the junction
of the teeth and gums, the
tongue and the roof of the
mouth. And you don't need a
fancy, angled toothbrush – just a
sturdy, soft-bristled one that you
replace each month.
4. Get what you give! Always giving and never taking? This is the short road to compassion
fatigue. Give to yourself and receive from others, otherwise you’ll get to a point where
you have nothing left to give. And
hey, if you can’t receive from
others, how can you expect them
to receive from you?

Advice
5. Get spiritual. A study conducted by the Harvard University found that patients who
were prayed for recovered quicker than those who weren’t, even if they weren’t aware
of the prayer.
6.
Bone up daily. Get your daily calcium by
popping a tab, chugging milk or eating yoghurt. It’ll
keep your bones strong. Remember that your bone
density declines after the age of 30. You need at least
200 milligrams daily, which you should combine with
magnesium, or it simply won’t be absorbed.
7. I say tomato. Tomato is a superstar in the
fruit and veggie pantheon. Tomatoes
contain lycopene, a powerful cancer
fighter. They’re also rich in vitamin C. The
good news is that cooked tomatoes are
also nutritious, so use them in pasta,
soups, as well as in salads. The British
Thoracic Society says that tomatoes and
apples can reduce your risk of asthma and
chronic lung diseases. To enjoy the benefits, eat five apples a week or a tomato every
other day.
8.
Load up on vitamin C. We need at least 90 mg
of vitamin C per day and the best way to get this is
by eating at least five servings of fresh fruit and
vegetables every day. So hit the oranges and
guavas!
9.
Pure water. Don’t have soft drinks or energy
drinks while you're
exercising. Stay properly hydrated by drinking enough
water during your workout (just don't overdo things, as
drinking too much water can also be dangerous). While you
might need energy drinks for long-distance running, in
shorter exercise sessions in the gym, your body will burn the
glucose from the soft drink first, before starting to burn
body fat.
10. The secret of stretching. When you stretch, ease your body
into position until you feel the stretch and hold it for about
25 seconds. Breathe deeply to help your body move
oxygen-rich blood to those sore muscles. Don't bounce or
force yourself into an uncomfortable position.

Desert Hut
Caramel Pudding Recipe
Ingredients - For the caramel
160g/6oz sugar
Unsalted butter, for greasing the ramekins
For the custard
4 free-range eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
25g/1oz caster sugar
600ml/1 pint full-fat milk
pouring , to serve
Preparation method 1. Pre-heat oven 150C/300F/Gas 2. Warm the ramekins in the oven, so they are warm when the
caramel is poured in.
2. First make the caramel. Pour the sugar and six tablespoons of water into a clean stainless steel
pan.
3. Dissolve the sugar slowly, stirring with a wooden spoon over a low heat.
4. When there are no sugar granules left, stop stirring and boil until the sugar turns a dark copper
colour.
5. Remove immediately from the heat to ensure the caramel does not burn. Quickly pour the
caramel into the warmed ramekins.
6. Set aside to cool and become hard. (Do not put in the fridge because the sugar will absorb
moisture and go soft and tacky).
7. Once hard, butter the sides of the ramekins above the level of the caramel.
8. For the custard, whisk the eggs, vanilla extract and caster sugar together in a bowl until well
mixed.
9. Pour the milk into a saucepan, gently heat over a low heat until you can still just dip your finger
in for a moment, then strain the milk through a fine sieve onto the egg mixture in the bowl.
10. Whisk together until smooth, then pour the mixture into the prepared ramekins.
11. Stand the ramekins in a roasting tin and fill the tin half-way with boiling water from a kettle.
12. Cook in the oven for about 20-30 minutes or until the custard has set. Do not overcook the
custard – check around the edges of the dishes, to make sure no
bubbles are appearing.
13. Take the crème caramels out of the oven, remove the
ramekins from the tray and set on a cooling rack.
When cool, transfer to the fridge overnight so
that the caramel is absorbed into the
custard.
14.
To serve, loosen the sides of
the custard by tipping the ramekin and
loosen with a small palette knife round the
edges. Place a serving dish on top of the
ramekin and turn upside down. Serve with
pouring cream

Cricket Match Report
VS
CUP 2013
PAKISTAN VS SRI LANKA
T
he T20 series between Sri Lanka and
Pakistan was a much anticipated one as the
two Asian Giants battled ahead of the T20
World Cup which is to be held in
Bangladesh in few months’ time.
The T20 series consisted of two matches
and it was concluded on the 13th of December with
Sri Lanka and Pakistan winning 1-1 to square the
series. Starting off with the First T20 which was held
on the 11th of December at the DSC grounds Dubai;
Pakistan Captain Mohamed Hafeez won the toss and
opted to bowl first. Sri Lanka started off very slowly
loosing Dilshan early in the 2nd over and wickets kept on
tumbling with a run rate of just 6 per over. Finally Sri
Lanka managed to score
145 for 5 in their 20 overs
with the help of Angelo
Mathews scoring 50 off
33 balls; which increased their run rate over 7 per over. On the
other hand Pakistan bowlers kept it tight; Saeed Ajmal and
Sohail Tanvir being the quick of the bowlers. Also Saeed Ajmal
reached to his 400th international wicket with the dismissal of
Kumar Sangakkara caught by Shahid Afridi. On the whole they
restricted them to a below par total. Pakistan came out to bat
with the target of 146.
They started losing wickets early in the chase and their
run rate never got going. Hafeez and Shrajeel Khan steadied the ship but go out in quick
sessions to leave Pakistan reeling. Then came Shahid Afrdi who blasted the Sri Lanka bowlers
around the Park with three mighty blows to
register the win for Pakistan, he ended
scoring 39 runs of 20 balls to see Pakistan in
the winning side, On the bowling department
Malinga and Sachitra Senanayake bowled
well but the others leaked runs. Shahid Afridi
Grabbed the Man of the Match for his allround show. Also Afrdi became the only
player to score 1000 runs and take 50 wickets
in T20 internationals.

Cricket Match Report
The second T20 was a very cruicial one for the Lankans as it was a must win game for them
to keep the No 1 spot in the ICC T20 Rankings. Pakistan Captain Mohamed Hafeez again
won the toss and opted to bowl first.
It was a different Scenario in this
match as Sri Lankan batsmen feasted
Pakistan bowlers all around the ground to
score a mammoth total of 211 in their 20
overs jus loosing 3 wickets. It was the
highest runs scored in this ground beating
168 /7 of Australia against Pakistan last
year. And also Sri Lanka became the only
team to score over 200 runs against Pakistan. Opener Kusal Janith top scored with 84 runs of
55 balls. And was well supported by Dilshan and Sangakkara. Pakistan bowlers had no clue
and bowled many loose deliveries due to the dew on the
field. Young fast bowlers Billawal Bhatti and Usman Khan
both were blasted for runs. Even the experienced bowlers
were getting the same treatment but only Saeed Ajmal
standed out with picking up two wicket for just 25 runs in
his 4 overs and took his 100th wicket in a calendar year.
Chasing 212 was not a big issue because of the dew
in the outfield but still it was too much for Pakistan as they
were able to score only 187 runs in 19.2 overs. Finally Sri
Lanka won the match by 24 runs and squared the series 11 and retained their No 1 T20 spot in the ICC T20 rankings. Kusal Perera was awarded the man
of the match for his blistering knock and Shahid Afridi won the man of the series award for his
all-round performance in this series.

“I Love You Mum”
He was playing pool with
lots of heartbroken feelings
running inside his mind. His wife
who was expecting twins after two
children had a bloody miscarriage;
as a doctor his next operation is to
separate the conjoined twins,
which is very risky because they
were conjoined at the head and
babies cannot recover heavy blood loss. In previous attempt in separating conjoined
twins at the head, one sibling always died. He had felt the value of a baby from the
tears of his wife. So he now wants to make this operation a success.
With all these feelings crossing his mind he observed his mother Sonya Carson
the lady who enjoys his victories and who is beside him whenever he needs help. He
is an African American child from a one parent home. He was not a brilliant student
when he was small, he had all failing grades. The hidden secret behind his success was
his mother, who dropped out school in her third grade. As a mother she never wanted
her sons to suffer the same way she suffered because of illiteracy.
When her two sons need to learn multiplication tables, she made them swear
to learn while she has gone out for work. When she realized that television is hindering
her two sons’ success, she created a strict schedule for watching television and they
were preferred to watch one quiz show later on. She also commanded them to read
two books per week from the library and give her the book reports on them. As a result
he learned how to spell and multiply. He started to
explore the world of books and grows in it.
He was a short tempered person. He nearly
killed a friend who told him to go to hell because of
this irritability. His knife broke when it hit his friend’s
belt. He had almost killed someone because of his
temper; he realized that he cannot do anything by
himself. He ran into his room and cried out to God to
take away his temper. His temper never bothered
him again.
He never felt isolated because his mother

Now while all these memories

Water which was pouring heavily

his mind. He thought of stopping the
babies’ heart for one hour to stop
bleeding and to do the operation. He
formulated the plan very well. After
about twenty two hours, the operation proved a success when he and his team of
doctors managed to successfully separate the baby twins to save two young lives.
He has been awarded thirty eight honorary doctorate degrees and dozens of
national merit citations. For whom this gifted hands belongs to? He is Benjamin
Solomon “Ben” Carson an American neurosurgeon who is credited with pioneering
work on the first successful separation of
conjoined twins joined at the head.
He could have not achieved this
triumph without his mother’s support; a
legend who broke the law which says that
an illiterate person cannot succeed in life.
“There is nothing like a dream to create the future” Sonya Carson dreamt about her

others lives.

Fashion Tips and Tricks
Don’t worry to buy if you’re unsure about sale
purchase or an impulse. But when you wake up the
next day if you’re still thinking about it, buy it.
In order to avoid falling hair during the night, invest in
satin pillowcases or silk. (They also help your skin for
a smoother look than rough cotton cases!)
Follow the A, B, C’s:- no Alcohol, Bread or
processed Carbs for guaranteed weight loss.
Always choose the smaller denim size when it
doubt, since jeans stretch with time.
Use washcloth and shaving cream to remove liquid makeup from shirt collars.
Keep the top button of the dress (which is also called the gauntlet) buttoned
while you roll to achieve the perfectly effortless cuffed sleeve.
In order to determine whether the pearls are real, lightly rub the pearl over
your teeth, if it is real it will slightly glitter or texture. Fake pearls will be
perfectly smooth.
Use hairspray to remove a lipstick stain
Pour a dash of vodka into vase water and it will
extend the life of your flowers.
Make sure you wash the new jeans at least twice
before you take them to the tailor. Because when
jeans are washed they will always shrink in length.
Use white wine in order to remove red wine

Interviewee: When I was teenager I was only 55 Kgs before starting bodybuilding and I was only
constantly bullied by my school mates, hence I started to training and as I’m a perfectionist i
wanted to take it to the next level and be the best in what I did, hence I ended up competing in
bodybuilding shows and have managed to maintain an impressive and healthy physique since
then, now I walk around with 19 inch arms and a ripped physique while all my schoolmates look
like pregnant women.
Interviewer (Rizan): What are your achievements?
Interviewee: In bodybuilding I have competed in more
than 15 shows and won in 9 shows including the 2001
junior MR. Srilanka, junior central Sri Lanka, Mr. Kandy
and many other national level shows.
Interviewer (Rizan): Who is your role model?
Interviewee: Arnold Schwarzenegger. I think what he
has achieved in bodybuilding and outside of
bodybuilding is amazing
Interviewer (Rizan): If you weren’t a body builder what
would you have been?
Interviewee: Probably a boxer, I love boxing, I still spend
a lot of time watching it.
