It’s 11:00a.m on a Tuesday morning. A year ago, by
this time of the day, I would have washed my hands
35 times. If I were having a bad day, it might have
been 55 times. The skin on my hands would have
been so deeply embedded with soap, I could have
lathered using only water.
My illness seemed insurmountable – until I
reached out to a most caring, most compassion-
ate, most qualified professional: Dr. Baharav. I
could never have beaten this horrific obsessive
compulsive disorder (OCD) without his miraculous
treatment.
For so long, I did not even realize I was ill. I knew
I had the eccentric tendency to keep washing my
hands, but I attributed it to being a ‘clean-freak.’
Friends and family would call my repetitive actions
‘queer’ or ‘odd,’ but they never realized I needed
help. If the sink in my apartment ever broke and I
lost access to running water, I would break out into
a cold sweat. I often felt depressed and dejected,
and my relationship with my husband and children
was strained.
But where to turn? I tried one psychiatrist after
another. Some of them prescribed medication
to alleviate my symptoms of OCD. But drugs only
worked to mask the symptoms – the way Tylenol
reduces fever, without healing the sickness that
precipitated that fever in the first place.
Another treatment I was put through is called
Cognitive Behavior Therapy. These are techniques
for dealing, and living, with OCD. They gave me
strategies to mitigate my symptoms – but only on
a temporary basis. As soon as I failed to implement
these strategies, my compulsions flared right up
again. I was devastated, and despairing of ever
finding a cure.
Until the day my life changed completely.
Someone recommended that I visit Dr. Baharav –
a Doctor of Clinical Hypnosis (who treats physical,
emotional, & sleep disorders). His treatments were
more than 90% effective in OCD patients. He’s
been practicing his technique against OCD for the
last ten years, with astounding results. I knew I
had to meet this eminent specialist, to determine
whether or not his acclaimed methods could work
their magic for me.
Dr. Baharav’s office was a most pleasant sur-
prise. I expected to find myself in a detached,
dispassionate surroundings, as are typical of most

had never known before about OCD.
Dr. Baharav explained that OCD is comprised of
two categories: repetitive thoughts (about virtually
anything), and/or any repetitive actions – such
as the need to continually check things, or to
recurrently wash one’s hands. OCD is called the
“Doubting Disease.” While an ultra-clean person
might enjoy hand-washing, someone with OCD
repeats this action due to incessant stress. Dr.
Baharav made me aware that the disease is
always accompanied by relentless anxiety.
In OCD patients, repetitive thoughts tend to
enter their minds in a loud, rough, and bullying
manner. These are not typical thoughts, but harsh,
anxiety-filled mantras that echo inside their heads,
causing fretfulness and angst. The flip side of their
anxiety is depression. If those repeated thoughts
come very frequently; or if they disrupt the regular
flow of one’s life, they are indicators of a vicious,
but curable, disorder: OCD.
Dr. Baharav’s treatment is a breakthrough in
OCD because, unlike the techniques I’d previously
tried for coping with the illness, his methods dis-
turbed the illness from surfacing at all. Slowly, the
number of times I felt the need to wash my hands
decreased.
Today, Thank Gd, I no longer suffer from OCD.
I have just a few short words of advice for any-
one out there who is similarly suffering: There is no
reason for anyone to submit to the trauma of this
illness, when a cure is viable and easily attained.
Do not let another day of anguish pass needlessly.
