The natives worked merely as slaves for this companies who employed racist and draconian policies. The army and a military governor used to rule the colony and kept the natives under control. Meanwhile, conflicts between the colonial powers (specially between Austria and Russia among others) erupted for the dominance of the new Balkan states.
