Marina bay is located around the south east of Singapore at a ‘Y’ shaped river area
3. First Stop… Clifford Pier
Built in 1933, Clifford Pier was a landing point for
immigrants and other sea passengers. A red oil
lamp used to hang from the pier as a guide to
seafarers, earning the pier the name Red Lamp
Pier
4. Did Marina bay always looked like
this?
No. It didn’t. Marina Bay Prior to independence did not
exist. Then, when you looked out of the window of the
Fullerton hotel building, It is already the open sea
instead of the familiar Marina Bay Sands!
This shows that the Singapore Government is capable of making major
changes to keep up with the fast –paced, competitive world!
7. Ever seen these weird looking
installations along Marina Bay

These ‘Breeze Shelters’
are eco-Friendly Installations
that let hot and tired
pedestrians have a little
Shade and some breeze under it. These shelters
store energy from the solar cells on the top when
no one is underneath. When motion sensors are
activated as someone walks below these shelters,
the fans kick into action, using the energy that is
stored from absorbed the sunlight.
8. These Breeze shelters are not only energy saving, these
Shelters are also a sign that the Government is striving towards
an eco-friendly society. Showing the principle of ‘ Leadership
is key’ . Although integrating into an eco- friendly
environment is costly and frequently negatively spoken
against. The government still, did what is right- by saving the
country’s precious natural resources.
9. Question to Ponder…
What is that empty field doing there?
This field is intended to be left empty by the URA.
In a recent opening ceremony of a marina bay facility,
Prime minister Lee Hsien Loong said that he wanted a
city area not just a business hub, he wants a city that
also ‘alive’ after working hours! Therefore, this field is
intended to be used as a recreational activity area.

12. About : Marina Bay Sands
Marina Bay sands is no doubt, a dominant icon of
Marina Bay. It is also considered an engineering
marvel. But behind the scenes the Government
actually made the IR of Singapore gain lots of revenue
for the country, benefitting the citizens!
13. Marina Bay Sands
The Marina bay sands also created lots of jobs for
Singaporeans this will lead to a lower unemployment
rate in Singapore. The Government showed the
principle of : ‘A Stake For Everyone, Opportunities For
All’. This is shown that the Government helped
citizens to gain a job, making everyone feel a sense of
belonging and ownership.’
