Pimlico Primary's Oxford Class - a summary of the exciting things the children at the Academy learned this week.
This week in the Pimlico Primary Oxford Class phonics lessons the children have been busy practicing their set one sounds and learning how to ‘hold a sentence’. In English lessons our focus has been the fairytale ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. During Maths this week the children have been finding the totals with different amounts and practicing counting or ordering numbers to 20.
The children are looking at Growing and New Life as their topic this term. This week all of the children have been using the garden centre role-play area as an extension of their numeracy lesson.
Have a closer look for a more detailed breakdown of what the children here at Pimlico Primary have been up to this week.

Thank you
To all of the parents who
have volunteered to help
Oxford Class by coming
along to Vauxhall City
Farm with us on Friday
30th
January. We are so
grateful for your ongoing
support and hope that the
trip is a huge success for
both parents and children
alike.
This term we are learning about My world: growing and new
life.
This week in phonics lessons the children have been busy practicing their set one sounds
and learning how to ‘hold a sentence’. In English lessons our focus has been the fairytale
‘Little Red Riding Hood’. The children have really enjoyed dressing up as the characters
from the story and acting it out using story language. Some children have written captions
about wolves, while others have been thinking about writing shopping lists for things to
bring to Grandma to make her feel better.
During Maths this week the children have been finding the totals with different amounts
and practicing counting or ordering numbers to 20. Most children have learned all of their
finger doubles, and have been making sure that their numbers are correctly orientated.
We have also been thinking about adding one to different numbers as well as finding the
next number on a number line from 0-20.
The children are looking at Growing and New Life as their topic this term. This week all of
the children have been using the garden centre role-play area as an extension of their
numeracy lesson. As part of this topic we will be taking the children to Vauxhall City Farm
on January 30th
to take part in a growing and planting workshop. We will be leaving the
school at around 11am that day and arriving back at school around 2.30pm. Pimlico
Academy will be providing the packed lunches and we are keeping our fingers crossed that
is does not rain.
Parent Progress Meetings
Parent progress meetings will be held at Pimlico Primary on Tuesday 10th
February all day
– please sign up on the sheet in the office with the time that you would like to attend.
Reading Books
As the children are learning to read we are changing their school reading book as often as
we can to ensure progression in this area. It is brilliant when you are able to read at home
with your child in the evening and write a comment in the reading record. Thank you so
much to all of the Reception parents who have been doing this as many of the children are
making huge amounts of progress in this area.
Merits of the week
Each week Pimlico Primary awards Merits of the Week for demonstrating understanding
of the school ethos. This week Oxford class awarded two merits one for a child who
consistently respects others, this goes to Jeada. We awarded another merit for a child who
keeps their friends safe, this goes to Natalie.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast club has now moved to the hall. Please drop your child off there instead of the
Science Lab. Many thanks.
Open Morning & Parent Reading Workshops
This term we would like to invite all of the parents to a workshop which will help you to
support your child reading at home. The workshop will be on January 27th
at 3pm. We
would also like to extend an invitation to all parents who would like to come into school
and read with the children. It is fantastic when parents are able to come and work with us
at school and if anybody is interested please talk to Miss Hutchison in the morning or
after school.
