The price of electricity will double over the next eight years
The price of electricity will increase by 40 – 60 €/MWh over the next
7 – 8 years, which represents a doubling compared to current rates,
taking into account the implementation of schemes for Green
Certificates, certificates of carbon dioxide emissions and bonus for
energy production from cogeneration, said today president of the
Association of Electricity Suppliers in Romania, Ion Lungu, in ‘Energy
Focus’ conference.
"The price of electricity will increase by 40–60 per €/MWh not earlier than 7–8 years. Growth was
estimated taking into account the implementation of schemes for green certificates, carbon dioxide
emissions and the cogeneration bonus, "said Ion Lungu.
A week ago, the head of the Renewable Energy ANRE, Regman Radu, said in a seminar on energy
issues that impact renewable energy in the electricity price to producers was estimated at 5–7% in
2011 whereas renewable energy producers receive green certificates as a form of support.
"The current electricity price is 45–47 €/MWh. Through the support scheme in green energy
investments, the impact of renewable energy production on energy producer price can also be
increased by 2.5 €/MWh in 2011", said Regman Radu. This would imply a price increase of 5–7%.
By 2017, renewables impact could mean an increase of 33 €/MWh, he said, meaning a 73% increase
in the price of producing energy.
