2. Ø Ricks Institute is a quiet place, especially for most of us
who come from Central Monrovia.
One of the things visitors or new students to this community observe
when they come here is the sound of the dining-hall bell. The sound
of the bell is a constant reminder that it is breakfast, dinner, or
supper time.
Because of this important role, students have over the years referred
to the bell as THE SOUND OF THE LIVING MAN.
Well, our dear bell has fallen ill since three days ago.
Our reporter Nimley Woart went to find out how serious this illness
is.
Here is his report.
That was Nimley Woart reporting.
We now join student……………………..………………for national news.
3. Thank you ………………………………. and Good morning:
The United States Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield on Wednesday visited the
Capitol Building and held talks with the Presiding officer of the Senate, Daniel Naatehn.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield made the visit to express her concern over the stalled (stulld)
Threshold Bill.
The US Ambassador says her government will remain restless until the controversial
population bill is passed into law by the Legislature.
She added that she will continue to visit the Legislature as long as the threshold bill
remains unsettled.
Ø Two representatives of the internet giant Microsoft this week visited the
Ministry of Education to hold discussions with officials of the ministry as to how
Microsoft will assist Liberia so that the country can catch up with the global internet
technology.
Ø Report reaching Rix FM says that the former head of the Armed Forces of
Liberia, General Hezekiah Bowen, is dead. General Bowen took over as head of the
army after the death of President Samuel Doe in 1990.

………………………….. Goodbye for now.
4. NIMLEY WOART’S REPORT
Ø Students refer to it as THE SOUND OF THE LIVING
MAN. Indeed those students who have attended Ricks, and
those who are still here, are familiar with this bell because of its
association with the dining hall.
Yesterday I was able to talk to student Emmanuel Sando of 11-2, the Vice President of the
Dining hall.
Student Sando told me that the rope that holds the bell so that it can remain suspended has
eaten up completely. He said on Tuesday during super time the bell fell while one of the
workers was ringing it because the rope could no longer support its weight.
When I asked him how the dormitory students will know food is ready, he told me that the
two deans at both dormitories ring hand bells to notify students. He added that the situation
was serious on the first day because most students did not eat their lunch and supper. He
concluded that problem will be taken care of as soon as possible.
Meanwhile an SOS call is out seeking a donor to replace this vital part needed by our dear
bell. If you know one, please let us know because Cheeseman Charlotte Tolbert Halls
would like to see the SOUND OF THE LIVING MAN carrying out her normal duties.
This is Nimley Woart reporting for Rix FM news.
