This document discusses the Safe Routes to School Tennessee Network, which brings together diverse members from bike/ped advocates, community development, transportation officials, parks and recreation, healthcare, universities, and more to promote policies and programs that encourage safe walking and biking to school. Recent successes of the Network include passing legislation supporting joint use agreements of school facilities and broadening driver responsibility for safety. The Network also leads conferences, workshops and school events like bike rodeos to educate students and distribute safety gear.

2011/2012 Legislative Session
Joint Use Agreements: Legislation passed
encouraging schools to open up their facilities,
like gymnasiums and tracks, to provide greater
