The Challenge:
With eCommerce volumes growing 2 to 3 times during the busiest times, the
manual processing of orders was taking too long. Furthermore, the clerical data
entry into QuickBooks and UPS WorldShip was prone to error. These efforts were
taking away from time that would be better spent serving the customers. The
original process involved:
Manually typing the orders from Magento into QuickBooks, then manually
processing shipments in UPS WorldShip. Finally, the resulting tracking
number has to be typed back into Magento
Monday and Tuesday are shipping days, so picking the right UPS service
for different destinations was manual to ensure the delivery was made by
Friday.
The Solution:
Plath’s Meats streamlined the entire process from orders being pulled from
Magento through to shipping with UPS WorldShip. Now with OzLINK the orders are
retrieved from Magento and inserted into QuickBooks. Shipping is automatically
initiated from the order in QuickBooks, generating the label and updating the
tracking number in both QuickBooks and Magento real time. The benefits achieved
include:
Orders are batch inserted into QuickBooks as opposed to manually typed,
saving 120 minutes a day during peak shipping periods
The selection of UPS service is automated based on their distance and
transit times
