To Kill A Mockingbird
      Written By: Harper Lee
Theme: Racism
1. How do the majority of whites in Maycomb
             view Tom Robinson?
The majority of white people in Maycomb are
not fond of Tom Robinson at all. Tom’s entire
life he has been respectful and kind. He has
not bothered anyone in the town of
Maycomb. The only reason the white families
do not like him is because of his race.

Answered By: Owen Gillis
2. Why does the Old Sarum Bunch show up at
               the Jailhouse?
The Old Sarum Bunch shows up at the jailhouse
because, Tom Robinson, the man who is accused
of raping Mayella, is being held there until trial.
They know Atticus is a great lawyer and has a
chance of proving Tom innocent. And they did not
want that to happen. So they show up at the
jailhouse to kill him, however Atticus is prepared
to defend Tom, although unnecessary because
Scout ends up getting them all to go home.

Answered By: Blake Chase
3. Is the jury fair when they convict Tom
            Robinson of rape?
No, because Mayella was bruised on only the
left side of her body, but Tom has no use of
his right arm, because he caught it in a mill
machine. So he wouldn’t be able to hit her on
the left side. In the end, Tom Robinson was
said to be guilty, only because he was a
black man and for no other reason.

Answered By: Ashley Tapia
5 excerpts:
“As you grow older, you'll see white men cheat black men every day
of your life, but let me tell you something and don't you forget it -
whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he
is, how rich he is, or how ïŹne a family he comes from, that white
man is trash.” -Atticus (295)

"Why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything
involving a Negro comes up, is something I don't pretend to
understand." -Atticus (117)

"I don't know [how they could convict Tom Robinson], but they did
it. They've done it before and they did it tonight and they'll do it
again and when they do it-seems that only children weep."
-Atticus (225)

"They're certainly entitled to think that, and they're entitled to full
respect for their opinions," said Atticus, "but before I can live with
other folks I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't
abide by majority rule is a person's conscience." -Atticus (114)

'They shot him,' said Atticus. 'He was running. It was during their
exercise period. They said he just broke into a blind raving charge
at the fence and started climbing over. Right in front of them-’”
-Atticus (235)
