A team presentation from both public and private sectors from Cambridgeshire & Peterborough at: "Tech Nations: Toward building the Next Generation of France-British Tech Trailblazers", hosted by Lord Ed Llewellyn, and organised by DIT France, led by Oriel Petry, and her Technology Team (led from Lyons by Isabelle Hurley). The event focused on Smart Cities, Cybersecurity and the Creative Industries, and the team comprised representatives from Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority about our role and ambitions, and two local companies with a global customer base: Telensa and Darktrace about their cutting-edge products and services in e.g. smart lighting and threat detection. References were also made to promote e.g. Cambridge Network, Cambridge Ahead, CW, Cambridge Cleantech and the REACTOR applied gaming incubator / accelerator at Anglia Ruskin University. Games Eden's Chair was in the audience. The audience (mainly Franco-British) were Industrial CEOs, Regional Leaders and Entrepreneurs. UK CEOs giving keynotes were Gerard Grech of TechNation - who gave as an exemplar the new Bradfield Centre incubator / co-working space on Cambridge Science Park - and Jeremy Silver of the Digital Catapult. The Ambassador also welcomed all to his home, and encouraged collaboration on technology across the Channel. This key event - held in such a flagship prestigious venue - also gave the opportunity to apprise a French audience of the @CambsPboroCA strategic priorities, around the key theme of being the leading place in the world to live, learn and work and opened the dialogue with our Embassy on potential future metro Mayoral exchanges. Specific outcomes thus far include several useful commercial interactions e.g. on CAVs, and also with a London-based SME.

A presentation given to the Isle of Man JCC by Ramsey Crookall: It is hard to believe that three years have passed since the onset of the global credit crisis. In the intervening period equity markets collapsed but due to the intervention by Governments and Central Banks they have now recovered much of the losses. Bond yields on the other hand have fallen to record low levels, while certain commodities, particularly gold and industrial metals have forged ahead amid hopes of a robust global economic recovery. So what does it all mean? Have all the problems gone away, or is it all an illusion? In this short presentation, Stuart Cowan and Peter Robertson will review the evidence and try to determine what the future holds for global markets. The main assets that will be covered are bonds, equities, gold and other commodities, with a brief mention of currency. Stuart Cowan FCSI is a Director of Ramsey Crookall. He has forty years career experience working in stock broking and Investment Management. Peter Robertson FCSI is Senior Investment Manager at Ramsey Crookall. He has twenty years industry experience.

Despite being only a few years old Social Media is a phenomenon that has transformed the world we live in. Organisations now have a new medium to deal with, a medium that has enhanced some businesses and impaired, if not totally devastated others. This has also resulted in the creation of a number of new opportunities, thanks to reduced barriers to entry and the global reach of the Internet. The presentation will focus on three waves of technology that have led to where we are today, namely computerisation, the Internet and finally Social Media. We will discuss how these waves have impacted Competitive Advantage and also how they have been brought to bear on local businesses. JCC are pleased to present Owen Cutajar, a technology consultant who has worked with a number of organisations helping them make best use of ICT at both a strategic and a tactical level. Having a background in both technology and business spheres Owen has been able to bridge the gap between the two disciplines enabling him to bring technology into the boardroom and strategic intent to technology teams.

Chris will also consider how the outlook for the Island’s IT industry and project management is affected by the current economic situation and outlook. Chris Davies is the Chief Operating Officer of Intelligence Ltd one of the Isle of Man’s largest consultancy companies. Chris has over 25 years experience of the IT industry in a variety of roles including hardware and software development, sales, marketing and project and corporate management. He has worked for both public and private companies and has a wealth of experience of projects of all sizes. Chris is currently working with the Isle of Man Government and other clients providing strategy, programme and project management consultancy.
