as “spot” or single-word reading. They are small, lightweight and
portable, but require good coordination to maintain the focal distance
and may not be a good option when both hands are needed.
Optical Stand Magnifiers
The stand magnifier is one of the simplest devices available for
reading. Stand magnifiers are made to rest directly on the page
to set the magnifier at the ideal focal distance and because
the magnifier rests on the reading material, the user

NoIR®
The NoIR filter system manages overall visible light transmission (VLT) to allow the proper amount of light
energy to reach the eyes. This works to maximize functional vision, enhance contrast and provide comfort
against disabling glare. The NoIR filter system includes a full-range of lenses (spanning 90% to 1% VLT),
accommodating all levels of photosensitivity. Many people require different filter transmissions for
cloudy and bright conditions or for indoor versus outdoor applications.
• All NoIR filters absorb ultraviolet radiation (UV A, B and C) to 400 nanometers
• Choose from a variety of frame styles in 50+ lens options
• Protect the retina against long-term exposure to high energy wavelengths

The Evaluation Process: Selecting the Right Lenses
Selecting the appropriate filter to minimize eye discomfort and maximize visual resolution is
dependent on an individual sense of what “helps.” As a rule of thumb for a successful vision
assessment, determining the best filter requires balancing light sensitivity issues with appropriate
filter color selection.
Evaluation Tips:
• For maximized visual acuity, select the highest visible light transmission (VLT) possible within a group
of filter colors appropriate for the eye disorder. Then, working from lightest to darkest, offer companion
products until the patient responds favorably. Use a method of trial and error with various filter colors
and visible light transmissions to determine the filter
• Where possible, allow for outdoor testing of colors
