Emap started life as a local newspaper company in 1947. Today Emap is a global media group, playing a crucial role in giving the retail, media, finance, fashion, health, education, government and automotive sectors the essential news, analysis and access they need to succeed. Previous projects with Squiz – corporate site and insight division (several websites – BRAD, Planet Retail and DeHavilland). Squiz had already delivered fast, successful projects with Emap.
needed to be able to efficiently , quickly and cost-effectively produce websites. The previous system had large, costly, hardware requirements and wasn’t fast enough. Integration with SBClient – to enable them to efficiently process bookings made via the web. Also needed to integrate with their marketing database so that web contacts were fed to marketing and automatically saved into their database Their previous system didn’t enable them to make changes to the system themselves – many things required technical knowledge. They needed to regain control over their system so that they had the flexibility to make changes as required, fast and without the need for additional spend or resources. Of course – ROI, as with any CMS project… .
Site is due to go live at the end of September. Approx 80 sites will go live at that time. Plan to rollout around 200 sites per year at least. Depending on content and functionality requirements, Emap can now publish a website in half a day . At least a 200% speed improvement. The time saved on content editing, creation and management is now used for system improvements. Also, now that marketing staff are able to create, edit and publish content themselves, additional time has been saved for the web department to devote to further developments. Savings largely because they don’t have to pay license fees . they have also made significant savings on hardware – they’ve gone from 30 servers to 3 servers (virtualized setup). Are able to invest these savings into further system improvements and developments. They now have the power and ability to implement changes themselves. As the system is intuitive and simple to use, they can make complex changes and improvements without the need to employ a third party agency.
New functionality and better usability ease of inserting media (images/video), creating new pages and sites, creating custom forms and content in general is much easier to manage. Integration with marketing database providing seamless collection of data Polls Search capability Social media incorporated – twitter/linkedIn/blog plug ins SEO – now able to easily manage URLs, human readable URLs, SEO friendly mark-up is encouraged by the system set-up, the design template also assists in better SEO. Roadmap and confidence in the software – Confidence in the software derived from long relationship with Matrix and Squiz. Have seen that matrix is continuously being developed and improved and is always up to speed with the latest web trends and functionality requirements of its users. Know that there will be frequent and regular updates.
